The cat called out to the kittens with renewed hope when someone took them from a shelter and promised them a good life.

Nova, an orange and white cat, was at an animal shelter preparing to give birth, and Tails High reached out to the shelter to help give the cat a better life for her family.
Asa, a volunteer with Tails High, was running errands when she received a text from the rescue group. “I cut my errands short and made the three-hour round trip to pick them up, and by that point she had given birth to her beautiful baby,” she told Love Meow.
Just a few hours after they were born, the kittens left the shelter with their mother and headed off to new lives in foster homes.

“Nova had a bit of a hard time at first. The shelter staff said she hadn’t been cleaned up when the baby was born.”
Overwhelmed by the stress and conditions at the shelter, Nova retreated into herself and relied on the kindness of staff and volunteers to care for her baby. But when she stepped into a foster home, everything changed.

With a quiet room, a comfortable bed, a constantly replenished feeding station, and a loving human, Nova relaxed. The wariness in her eyes faded and maternal instinct took over. She tenderly cuddled her babies as they nursed on her belly.
After a long nursing session, she went outside for a well-deserved break, had a great chat with her foster mom and rewarded herself with a big stretch.

Despite our best efforts to save all of the kittens, sadly one, Ash, lost the fight. The remaining kittens, Alexandria, Early and Vienna, continued to gain weight and strength. At two weeks old, they officially entered the hobbling stage.
For a while, Nova enjoyed some time to herself between feedings, but that all changed when the kittens started to use their paws. Intrigued by their surroundings, they left the nest to go exploring.

They followed their mother everywhere, honing their sense of balance and walking.
Nova lay on the floor, stretching out her paws to cuddle the shambling kittens, their adorable chirps and twittering filling the room as she called to them.

Over the next two weeks, the kittens became more stable and curious, and their playful and mischievous sides emerged. “Nova has her hands full with the kittens.”
At four weeks old, the kittens were plump, well-behaved cats and their personalities were starting to shine.

“I think Alexandria is the most independent child. She likes to wander around the room by herself and hang out under the cabinets.”
“I often see Arlie and Vienna together, scratching each other’s faces in slow motion (learning how to play).”

Nova teaches the kittens cat etiquette, including eating from their bowls, playing with their toys, using the litter box and climbing the cat tree.
The kittens are following in her footsteps and mastering many of the essential cat skills, including running. “Early is starting to learn how to bunny kick. She’s learned from the best kittens.”

After playing, the kittens snuggle up to their mother and fall asleep purring.
“Nova has become a very dedicated mother, she’s very energetic and chirps a lot. Now that the kids are a little older, Nova has started playing with them.”

Once her kittens are big enough to spread their wings and fly, Nova plans to happily retire from motherhood to focus on what she loves.
