Hello, this is Dr. Karin! Read my introduction, learn more about me and meet my five cheerful cats: Clutch, Cyril, Alex, Zelda, and Zazuls.
to be honest. I’m not the best vegetarian in the world. Often I dumped spoiled fruits and vegetables on Fridays and had very high hopes in the supermarket on Mondays. Recently I tried to incorporate it into more recipes as a source of more clean and healthy protein, and discovered that if you marinate it, you can season it or soak it in the sauce, it just stops tasting like tofu and tastes it like what you owned and died! However, I had no idea how tofu was distinctive in my cat’s life.
Relax, I’m not trying to force a vegetarian lifestyle on my cat. Not only do I think it’s unhealthy, but I also think it’s unethical. Many venerable vegans argue that cats can be healthy on a plant-based diet, but they are mandatory carnivorous animals and the source of taurine should be meat. There is not enough evidence to convince me that cats cannot live completely meatlessly and should not. While we humans may have ethical and moral obligations to consider reducing animal use and abuse at least for our comfort and pleasure, it is misguided and in some cases irresponsible to enforce our moral values on our pets.
So you may wonder why cats are introduced tofu on Earth. Well, I’m not putting it in their food bowls, I’m using it on the other side of the digestion process. Yes, I’m trying out the tofu cat trash.
Did you say it’s tofu cat trash?
When I first read those words, I thought it was a typo. Tofu cat trash? Are you serious? But this is not a mistake. These days, it seems like there’s no end to the types of ingredients we’re making cat trash, and I’m here for that. Apart from traditional clay, you can find cat trash made from corn, wheat, grass, paper, wood, silica, walnuts and of course tofu. What’s great is that most of these are by-products of existing industrial processes or utilize recycled materials. Another bonus is that many of them can be disposed of in the toilet, and tofu is one of the best for this.
I have been using cat trash of the same type and brand for over 10 years. This is a lightly scented, thin granule-aggregated clay waste. With five indoor cats, it is at the top of the list of priorities. I use the top entry trash bin, so trash tracking is not a big problem for me, but it still happens. I also like to stick to Zelda’s shaggy little pants, but that’s not ideal. So, after establishing that tofu cat trash is actually something, I thought I’d give it a try – what should I lose?
First impression

I’m used to pulling my regular trash 2 x 12kg (26 pounds) bags on regular stairs – my weekly kettlebell training and @korcoaching I’m ready – these 2.7kg bags felt like I had nothing, so if there was nothing else, this trash is good on my back!
After rescuing most of the garbage that had been skillfully spilled on the floor, we were surprised that the two packs were providing garbage depth to the deep boxes. Still, filling up three large trash bins costs about twice as much as regular trash. Garbage feels good for me.

verdict
I was impressed.
The trash was used three times a night, so the cat clearly accepted this new product.
The odor control is excellent, and the lightweight material makes it easier to sieve. It takes a little time to feed through the scoop, but that’s not exactly a trade breaker. Unlike clay trash, leaving a small wet litter behind the wet trash, falling from the sieve, looking like a small hedgehog – not crumbling, the leftover trash appears completely dry.
What can you say? Tofu seems to be a regular staple in our homes, both in the kitchen and in the trash cans.
