They came across a kitten in a shelter who seemed “in shock” all the time and couldn’t leave without him.

When there was an influx of animals in need, Emily Rakovin and Haley of Thrifted Kittens Animal Rescue flew to Pasco County Animal Services to volunteer.
During our stay they did everything they could to help the exhausted staff. Emily, who was caring for kittens, came across a small tabby cat whose chin had been removed and the cat had almost healed. The kitten, found alone and suffering from hypothermia, showed remarkable resilience.
“We named him ‘Flabargust’ because he always seemed to be in a state of shock,” Emily said.

A kitten in dire need of rescue and treatment struck a chord with Emily and Haley. They couldn’t bear to leave him behind. “I decided to take him home, and thankfully everyone loved him right away, even though he kept screaming the whole time he went through airport security.”
They went to the rescue with another cat named Sox from a shelter.

Flavergust’s eyes lit up at the sight of the food, and he rushed toward it as if his life depended on it. He munched vigorously, even sitting in the bowl, as if that would help him eat the food faster.
“He has a big appetite and is always yelling for more food. He’s energetic and playful so watch your toes,” Haley shared.

Blessed with a cozy home and endless food, Flavergust fell into a food coma after every meal.
He immediately began to fill up with energy and his energy level skyrocketed. Always on the move, he moved around like he owned the place. Nothing could slow him down. Once he is old enough, he will have surgery to fix his jaw.

“Despite everything, he’s a goofy boy who loves acting tough and playing with his foster brother Socks. He’s very small, but he’s very confident.”
Socks towered over the kitten and tried to teach it how to play properly, but Flabbergust acted as if it were the same size, pounced on it with all its might, and wrestled with it. He went to bed each night after being exhausted in all his rough accommodation.

Although Flabbergust was small in stature, he had the energy and appetite of a tiger. He wasn’t shy about using his voice to get what he wanted. Bold and adventurous, he jumped from any height as if gravity had no bearing on him.

Recovery was difficult, especially with Flavergast’s unbridled energy and endless urge to play. Even when he was wearing a cone, he was determined to jump incredible distances that other kittens his age would be hesitant to attempt.
He kept letting his food sit out during meals, so a mess was inevitable at every meal.

Flavergust climbed onto his adoptive mother’s shoulders and slid down her chest as if rolling down a hill. Every day he seemed to be fighting gravity, tumbling awkwardly everywhere he went.
It was a lot of work to keep him calm and clean.

“The recovery was tough, but after six weeks you’ll never know that nothing was wrong.”
When he heard his adoptive mother’s voice, he ran over and was on her shoulder within seconds. He loves to lean into her, purr quietly, and occasionally show his brave side.

A small bundle of energy has blossomed into a lively shoulder cat with a big personality.
Flabbergust doesn’t seem so “surprised” now. Thanks to his rescuers, he is doing well in a foster care home and is enjoying each day to the fullest.
