Last week, SPCA Florida video Staff at the shelter showcased the hidden talent of one of their rescued cats on their Facebook page, and the talent was eventually recognized and the kitten was adopted. The kitten, named Firecracker, somehow learned how to get around the lock mechanism of his cathouse. When staff at the shelter spotted Firecracker escaping while the other cats were locked in, they decided to capture him on the spot. The video surprised and impressed everyone, including Firecracker’s new owner, who decided to adopt him the next day.
Shelter kitten finds forever home thanks to hidden talent for escaping doghouse
On July 19, SPCA Florida uploaded a video of an impressive escape of a tabby cat who escaped from his cage without any human help. Staff found the cat outside while the other cats were safely inside their cages. In a mysterious turn of events, staff simply put the cat back where he was.
It wasn’t until the shelter staff sat down to talk that they each realized they had seen the cat outside on separate occasions, and that this was happening far too often to be a coincidence. Finally, one of the staff decided to try and get a video of what Firecracker was doing.
The shelter’s kitten’s hidden talent is that he’s figured out how to open the lock on the doghouse. In the video, the kitten can be seen sneakily reaching out his paws to pick up the lock and slide it out. “We’re thrilled to be able to help the kitten,” said Randa Richter, public relations director for the SPCA of Florida. Dodo“He’s the first kitten our cat has ever had to do that…Everyone was so surprised and laughing because they knew he was a very smart kitten.”
The staff decided to share the video online. Firecracker’s new owner was also very impressed with the shelter kitten’s hidden talent. She decided to give Firecracker a forever home and adopted the kitten the next morning.
Additionally, she shared a photo of him in a post with SPCA Florida on July 22. The owner commented that Firecracker is “amazing.” He’s currently staying in her bathroom until she introduces him to his feline siblings.
