I don’t know why America’s Independence Day is so noisy! I think that since there are so many people in this country who have pets, they would do something about it. But every year on the 4th of July, dogs and cats are traumatized by loud noises and explosions. This is awful because our ears are very sensitive.
Luckily, fireworks don’t faze me as much as other cats, and my owner always has something to distract me, so I feel pretty safe overall. But a lot of cats have a terrible time with fireworks on the 4th, so here are some helpful suggestions.
One is to create a private, quiet environment for your cat: a room with curtains or shutters to block out some of the noise, and some of her favourite, familiar objects. If your cat likes to hide under the bed during fireworks, make that space as comfortable as possible for her.
Cats relieve stress by scratching, so provide a scratching post in their room.
Toys that cats like are always a good addition, and during the noisiest hours of the night, my owners usually turn up the air conditioning (it’s loud!) and let me play with interactive toys, like my cat toys. RompiCatz Cattyped(Affiliate link)
Don’t forget your cat’s favorite treats, some cats may be hungry but want something tasty after a while.
