My cat visit at the Children’s Hospital began in the elevator. My human and I went with two patients and their mothers and they both looked at me and were pleased with pet! So the visit was already off to a great start.
I spent a little time in the lobby and saw the patients waiting for an appointment. I had room to sit at the table with a small toy car laid out for the kids to take. So I used the space to visit with my two siblings. The young boy was a little scared of me, but the older boy who had a prosthetic arm was happy to keep me.
Before heading to the exam room, I visited with one of the boys in the elevator. The first room we visited was Pops Rooms -Pediatric Orthotic and Prothetic Services.
We barely visited the first patients we saw. He was busy with his father and nurse, so his prosthetic legs were supported by the wall. But he really wanted to see me, so my man brought me in and he petted me with his claw-like hands, the same type of hand as his father.
In the aisle in the middle of the exam room, the nurses helped us by asking if they wanted to see us, and even the boys all of them all helped us by asking us. People who are allergic to cats want to see me anyway, but my humans should be very careful about them. Usually, as in this case, she discourages them from touching me and makes me do the trick.
The other two patients were allergic free and petted me without any problems. One was a little girl and the other was a family. They have two parents and a middle school girl. They spoke Spanish, and the cards outside the door requested an interpreter, but in fact they spoke English. I thought it would be easier for me to speak in my native language for important things like medical care.
After visiting an upstairs teenager coming out of the surgery, we thought we were finished. But the little boy running around in the lobby wanted to see me…and didn’t! A few yards away, his dad was busy chatting with the staff. Meanwhile, the boy put on a skirt around me and wondered if he should touch me.
Finally, I signed out and headed for the elevator. The little boy almost approached there!
It was a fun visit.
