Not to be confused with a much more serious neurological condition, cat paralysis stems from the idea that many cats distribute affection in a highly regulated way, and suspending or rejecting such an offer is a serious crime and could be punished for being treated on the cold shoulder of Feline for several weeks. So when a cat decides to make herself comfortable on your lap, you are my friend, you will not go anywhere for a while, so hopefully you have a new TV series to spend a good book or a new TV series. And you don’t dare to change your legs. If your legs become numb, it will become numb. Suck it up and thank you.
This phenomenon is widely used, but not absolute. There are also cats that don’t easily offend or remove them from the feet of human servants.
Where did the idea of ”cat paralysis” come from?
Speaking without generalizations, dogs tend to be enthusiastic givers and recipients of love and attention. Anytime, anywhere, no matter what. You can scream, push them away, or force them to watch the movie version cat! Again, they’ll come back. On the other hand, cats tend to do things only on their terms, so they are somewhat reserved in their affection. If you upset them, there is little chance that you will enjoy a cat hug for a while.
When a cat chooses to sit on our lap, it is a privilege that must be respected. It may take days, months, or even years before you are deemed worthy of such an honor again. The problem seems to be that little is needed to interrupt the cat’s sleep on his lap. A laugh, sneeze, or shifting foot position can be enough to run your cat friend for the hill.
Over time, we have learned that we remain silent and never make the first move, because we have the gift of a cat that was given to us on our lap.
Antithesis of cat paralysis
Just as there are cats running a mile with slight noises and convulsions, some are unable to move from a comfortable position, clinging to their wobbling knees on a rock. In my house, the clutch and cyril are such cats.
If there is one thing these fluffy boys cherish more than anything, even the food – it is comfort.
Both the clutch and the cyril are the masters who choose the worst possible time to make themselves comfortable on my knees, arms, or shoulders. They love to snuggle tightly, especially when it comes to work, eating, watching TV, or hindering Doomscroll’s abilities. Please don’t get me wrong. I love filling clutches and Cyril’s hugs, but these boys can be harder to shake off than timeshare salesmen.
I thought about it so I still suffer from cat paralysis, but of a very different kind. Some are trapped in chairs because they are afraid to disturb sleeping cats. I’m trying to get rid of mine here, so I can use the bathroom.
Why does a cat want to disappear due to convulsions in her legs? Meanwhile, do other cats close their eyes and pretend they don’t notice that their sleeping location is second-most vertical? The clutch is back to the point of unconsciousness, as we know from his love for being vacuumed and used as a dog bed, perhaps as a result of spending the first year of his life lost. Cyril was with us from the kitten, and although he doesn’t flutter as much as the clutch, he doesn’t easily take caution. Meanwhile, Alex, who joined our family as a kitten, is far more wary of loud noises and sudden movements. When he decides to round on your lap, if you want to continue snuggling them, it’s a classic case of paralysis.
Is it genetics? Does something happen to Alex and make him more wary than his lazy brother? Or is it just different priorities?
I love that they feel completely relaxed in our knees because both the cyril and clutch are so reassuring in our homes and in our offices, but whatever that may be, I will feel guilty. Whether you need to physically, almost forcedly peel the Cyril or Clutch from your knee, whether it’s to make slight movements that send Alex, Zelda, or Zazzles into retreat mode. What’s great is that they keep coming back.
