Unraveling the mystery of how cats express affection

Summer explains cat love languages, the different ways cats tell you they love you in their own unique way.

Do you speak Kitty as a second language? If you have one or more cats in your life, you should! The way cats talk is very different from how humans communicate. And it’s completely different from dog language. Think of it like comparing Japanese and English. Even if the messages are the same or similar, the ideas are different. We cats simply process thoughts, emotions, and ideas in ways that are unfamiliar to humans. And that includes our love languages.

Because of this, people often do not realize that their cats express love and devotion. They may even think that their cat is aloof and unloving…that couldn’t be further from the truth. Now let’s analyze some of the signals.

Cats want to be with you…but not necessarily right in front of you

Have you ever had a cat that chases you from room to room, but you’ve never actually gotten close to it? Did you look up from your book or TV and it was like they were on the other side of the room? ? Your cat wanted to share space with you.

Cats don’t necessarily have to snuggle up to you to express their devotion. They are completely used to being close and feeling your presence. They just want to know you’re there and vice versa.

This is one of the most well-known expressions of affection in cats. If a relaxed cat looks at you, blinks slowly, and then looks away, it’s a sign of trust and affection. Gifts are often given from far away. If your cat blinks slowly at you, blinking back is a good way to return the favor. Don’t just stare. It’s a threat and a challenge for cats.

cat tail love words

Dogs wag their tails when they are happy to see you. On the other hand, if your cat wags its tail back and forth, it means trouble because it is excited. However, a cat’s tail shows affection by holding it high when approaching you. If the tip of its tail is bent into the shape of a question mark, it means it’s very happy to see you.

Want to know when your cat is really excited? The tail is shaking! It’s true that cats also wag their tails when they spray, but this is different. When they are excited, it often accompanies the following signs of love:

Happy feet are love feet

Some people call this “kneading” or “making biscuits.” My humans call them happy feet, because that’s exactly what they are! If your cat is happily making footsteps on or around you, they are definitely happy to be with you.

A truly happy cat will do this even while standing. Sometimes they do it by wagging their tails. It’s like I’m so happy that I can’t control myself!

mark you as mine

Cats have scent glands on several parts of their bodies, including their heads, the base and top of their tails, and their paw pads. When they rub something, they are marking it with their scent. That way you’ll know that other cats (and other animals too) were there. Cats also mark their loved ones. It’s their way of saying, “You are mine.”

give a headbutt

Headbutts, also known as “bunting,” are a cute expression of affection from cats. You might think that it’s one thing for a kitten to kiss you. And yes, that’s one of the ways they mark you too.

sleeping with you

Cats don’t always want to keep a loving distance from you. If they truly trust you, they can and will get up close and personal. A cat that asks for physical contact with you has a lot of trust in you. The person you sleep with considers you their closest family member.

Every cat is different. Sociable people spread the word of love openly and freely. They express themselves through physical contact and other ways that humans consider more traditional. However, those who are shy towards humans or have a wild background are less obvious. If such a cat chooses to share space with you, even from a few feet away, it is a great compliment and should not be taken lightly. If they stare at you, slowly blink, and look away, you’ve received a precious gift.

Always remember that when a cat loves you, no matter how it is expressed, it is an expression of deep trust. Never betray or take for granted. Cats take betrayal more strongly than other creatures, so it is very difficult to regain trust. A cat’s love is deep and fragile. Always remember that.
