They adopted an “unwanted” cat and not only uplifted her life, but also brought hope to four other kittens.

A few weeks ago, Nikki and the Best Friends Feline team were contacted by a local veterinary hospital about a cat that had been brought in as a stray.
Cats are friendly and may have lived with humans in the past. Despite searching and waiting, no one came to collect her. The longer she was in the kennel, the more her spirit began to decline.
Staff rushed to place her in a children’s home. “This young woman was very pregnant and needed a home right away,” Best Friends Nekozu said.

After careful coordination, we arranged a foster home just in time for her to pick up the kitten. “She was calm, albeit a little wary of her surroundings. All in all, it was a great week.”
After a few belly rubs, she relaxed and quickly turned into a purring machine.

A few days later, she visited the vet for an examination. Soon after, the moment arrived and she surprised everyone. It was go time.
“By the time we checked on her a few hours after we got home, she had already given birth to three healthy babies. Shortly after, the fourth and final baby was born.”

“Everyone was clean the next morning, so I believe this was not her first birth (but it will be her last).”
Callooh (the mother cat) was very attentive unless belly rubs were in the cards. She really thrived in our quiet and comfortable home and developed a deep love for her foster parents.

“She often meets us at the entrance to the kitten room. She also finds her kitten inside and jumps around the room and plays with the toys there.”
The kittens (Brillig, Wocky, Wave, and Jabujubu – all from the poem “Jabberwocky”) doubled in size in their first week and continued to meet all their milestones in the following weeks. “Everyone’s eyes are wide open and they’re starting to squirm.”

“Wocky (white) is one of the boisterous kittens I’ve ever met. He loves being snug and cozy, so every night I ask him to weigh in or get a little snuggle.” Wabe, another white kitten, is quite the opposite, he is very calm and loves a slow lifestyle.
Over the past two weeks, Wocky has become even fluffier, earning him the nickname “Falcor” from The Neverending Story due to his soft, white, wispy hair.

While the kittens moved out of the nest and became more playful and mischievous, Karow enjoyed some peaceful kitten-free time with her humans. She still greeted them at the door and immediately alerted them if breakfast service was slow.
As soon as the kittens flocked to her, she crouched down and obeyed their every whim.

The kittens became more energetic and playful when they moved to a larger playpen. “Jab Jub (ginger and white) charges around the pen like a man on a mission.”
Brylig the calico cat may be the smallest of the herd, but she holds her own when wrestling with her siblings. “She’s more on the stocky side, but that makes her adorable and we want to cuddle with her more.”

The mother cat enjoys a few moments of calm as the kittens wrestle and roll around each other, until a whirlwind of kittens emerge from the cat furniture and onto the cat’s belly.
Wocky continues to lead the pack in weight, with the other teams not far behind.

“Carrow is spending more time away from them. She’s also interested in the furry visitors that peek through the high baby gate.”
The family of five welcomes all humans with purrs and foot rubs. “It seems like just yesterday these babies were brought into the world.” Soon, they will be embarking on their next exciting adventure.
