At 18 years old, the poodle would have enjoyed a soft bed, a warm meal and a gentle hug. Instead, he was dropped off in the shelter like old furniture. His owner said he had arthritis. My wife didn’t like him. And at worst, they called him “silly.”
He was blind. He was small. He was confused. And after giving his family a lifetime, he didn’t know why everything he knew had disappeared.

Her name is Irene, she is an experienced hospice foster parent and knows exactly how to care for dogs like figures. The moment she met him she knew he was perfect. It was written everywhere in her smile, and Figgie felt it too. He relaxed in her arms as if he was waiting for him to truly see his life. No longer an unnecessary senior with arthritis, Figure was more than that now – he was family.
He left the shelter and headed straight to Irene’s warm and loving home. And just in time for the holidays, he was greeted with soft blankets, nourishing food, and the affection he always deserves. This sweet little dog, who was so cruelly abandoned, will now spend the rest of his life surrounded by true love, comfort and dignity.
These are the most important moments. How do those years feel, not the number of years we get. Figure may be in his Twilight, but with Irene by his side he lives in his golden age with peace, joy and the safety of knowing he will ultimately be at home.
