For several weeks, the mother cat and her cat stayed in an animal shelter, waiting for the cold to clear.

The shelter environment was overwhelming for a mother who spent most of her time in the corner. Things began to change when Heidi Shoemaker, Foster Kitten Mama founder, offered to incorporate them and give them a chance to live a better life.

Once they were enough to travel, Mama, Colette and her six little children left the shelter.

She was still in her career with careful eyes as she and her multicolored kitten were being transported. She was just skin and bones, and some of her cat was also very low weight.

Upon arriving at the foster home, Colette carefully entered her new space. Her pussy flew around her, and she looked for a corner to hide and decompress.

While adapting to her new environment, she huddled into the trash bin despite the availability of multiple comfortable beds. Some of her cats joined her, while others made themselves at home, playing with toys and climbing cat posts.

“The babies were in a small shelter space for most of their lives. They were very excited to have toys and quickly understood what to do with them,” Heidi shared did.

“They are already coming out of the shells. They sleep in the mountains in the corner and are actions they have learned to stay safe. Wait until they are completely comfortable and regulated and have no problem sleeping anywhere. I can’t do that.”

“Mama is very scared, mostly hidden in the trash can, but she lays in the corner and comes out.”

Heidi brought some soft treats for a mom who, despite her fears, was unable to resist the charming smell. She approached Heidi badly and took some licks from the tube. “It made my heart happy.”

The horror in her eyes was instantly melted in a peace offering from her foster parents. She returned for a few seconds.

Slowly, Colette began to protect her with the help of her favorite treat. “She makes slight improvements every day. She just sits with her, gives her a snack and tries to get a little closer each day.”

Heidi provided daily “room service” to a family of seven, maintaining a clean play pen with fresh blankets and trash, and carefully monitored her weight and growth.

“These babies are five weeks old and should be well over pounds. The small grey tabby is only 8 ounces. We do as much as we can to get small things to put on a healthy truck. I’m doing that.”

The solid gray kitten, Yukon, was the second smallest of the garbage.

Colette has regained strength, filled out beautifully, and has gained confidence since she left her career. Heidi continues to provide supportive care and helps two small kittens improve their appetite and thrive.

The difference in size between the two smallest kittens and the other kittens is impressive.
