A cat left on the street was taken home, where the resident cat helped him learn to trust.

Dilly was once a bodega cat, but when the store closed he was kicked out of the house. He later saw him crying under the car at the door of a bodega that was closed in search of evacuation.
When two local animal rescuers heard about Dilly, they joined in to help. They discovered he was cowering under the car and was so scared to enter a career that they set up a humanitarian trap and patiently waited until he was safely rescued.
Dilly was naturally shaken by trials, but behind those horrifying eyes there was a gentle soul longing for love.

The Green Point cat took him and offered him a foster parent where he began to socialize and rebuild his self-confidence. Dilly showed signs that he was around humans as a kitten, but after being left to dodge for himself, he was wary of the people.
“Diley (short for dilemma) was probably born within the bodega, but spent more and more time outdoors, attracting minimal human attention,” the Greenpoint Cats shared.

He avoided being petted and ran away every time someone approached. Genevieve, a volunteer with a soft spot for a sick cat, opened her heart and her home for Dilly.
For a while, his ears continued to flatten in “plane mode” whenever he was around people.

Genevieve made her mission to beat Dilly. Realizing his love for food, she hoped it would be the key to his heart. Still shy, Dilly will see his foster parents from afar, especially around feeding times.
He’ll ask for a few seconds, even if he just ate an hour ago. “He won’t let me touch him, but he clearly likes me and at least my food,” Genevieve shared.

Meanwhile, Genevieve finds out that Dilly is amazing in the way she reacts to her resident cat, especially Calvin.
Dilly turned on the lights in his cat friend. His tail rose and his whiskers relaxed. He approached them with his most gentle snuggle, leaning lovingly, as if to seek affection.

Calvin welcomed Dilly with his open legs, letting him share his space and curls up beside him for a nap. As he groomed, Dilly melted into Calvin and found comfort to his new friend. With the help of the resident cat, Dilly slowly learned to trust.
Finally, for the first time, Dilly accepts contact from her foster parents, but only while he is eating.

Seeing the other cats interact with Genevieve reassured Dilly that she meant well. With Calvin at his side he gradually lowered the guards around his foster mom, constantly seeking leaning.
At one point, feeling completely relaxed, he rolled over his back and subtly invited his foster parents to give him a friendly pet.

He scooped near Genevieve, whose back was wide open. However, as soon as she sneaks into some pets, he pulls away in surprise and looks at her with wide eyes. He didn’t run away this time.
Dilly loves his toys and plays until she’s exhausted before taking a group nap with her cat mates.

“Thanks to the patient’s foster parents (and two friendly resident cats), Dilly learns that people aren’t (usually) that’s not that bad. They need foster parents who are willing to work with shy cats and kittens. It’s a very rewarding experience and can really save lives.”
Recently, Dilly decided to let her foster parents make him his pet without needing food bribes, and he began to enjoy it.

Dilly has come a long way since being rescued. From the moment he arrived, Genevieve recognized the kind soul behind his shy appearance and knew that one day he would warm up to her.
Now he is learning to enjoy being loved. He loves to his foster parents, and even slowly blows them away.
