Barrett the tuxedo cat and Shirley the kitten met in a foster home through Meow Village (a foster-based shelter) and formed a special bond.
The two began going everywhere together and providing comfort to each other. Before they met, Barrett had been through quite a recovery journey, with incredible resilience and brave spirit.
Despite unimaginable trials, he remained trusting and displayed a calm and gentle demeanor.

Barrett arrived at the shelter for surgery to remove a bullet from his leg. His purring engine never stopped during the 10 weeks he recuperated in a loving foster home. He enjoyed being petted and brushed after meals and was showered with affection.
“It warms our hearts to see his loving personality and how happy he is to be part of the family,” Miao Village said.

Barrett didn’t mind the cones or the arm restraints, he was just happy to eat his favorite snack.
While he was recovering, he met several kittens and treated them like older brothers, spending time with them, purring and cuddling them.

“He’s a big, sweet, loving purr who just wants to be loved as much as possible,” said Shannon, a foster carer who specializes in rescuing seriously ill cats and dogs.
When kitten Shirley arrived she was a sickly little animal, just skin and bones. Thanks to Shannon’s expert care, she flourished and became full of energy. Once she was well enough to socialize with other cats, she was instantly drawn to Barrett.

Soon, the two of them were snuggled up side by side as if they’d always been together, and a symphony of purring filled the room.
“Shirley’s playfulness brightened Barrett’s days, and Barrett’s calming presence comforted Shirley. They played, explored, ate, napped and soothed each other together. We love seeing these close bonds develop in the foster care system.”

Barrett takes some time to warm to new people, but is comforted and encouraged by his energetic friend Shirley.
“He purrs softly 24/7, whether it’s brushing his classic, formal fur coat or giving him affection.”

Shirley becomes Barret’s little shadow, his furry soulmate, following him around with unwavering loyalty. She looks up to him and tries to emulate everything he does. Barret takes good care of his little protégé and dotes on her all day long.
Shannon and the rescue team hoped that because of their unbreakable bond, they would be able to find a home for them together.

“They’re always together, cuddling, eating, drinking. They’ve both been through hard times, but they comfort each other, which is beautiful,” Shannon added.
A lovely couple was looking to get a cat when they came across these best friends. They fell in love with the cats and knew they couldn’t keep them apart.

After spending about four months in foster care, Barrett and his best friend’s dream came true over the weekend.
“They have left the building together and the pair will spend every day with their amazing new mum and dad, getting pampered and will also have their own catio.”
