We recently traveled to Northern California and made a temporary stop in San Francisco. It was my first time in the city of Golden Retriever Kenzo, so I couldn’t miss the opportunity to visit the Golden Gate Bridge, an iconic symbol of San Francisco.
Plan a short stop to see San Francisco’s iconic Golden Gate Bridge
A few weeks before our trip, we looked into various spots to see the Golden Gate Bridge. We often visited Crissy Field, but this time we looked closely at the bridge. So based on my research, I decided on the Presidio Battery East Vista. Of course, I made sure it was dog friendly.
The weather in San Francisco was another important factor that we considered during our planning. Golden Gate Bridge is often covered in fog, so I kept checking predictions before and within the drives to town. I was also told that March is considered the perfect time to visit the beginning of spring with mild temperatures, occasional sunshine and small crowds exploring the scenery of San Francisco.
We were very fortunate. The weather was calm and cool. Most importantly, there was no mist that obscure the views of Golden Gate Bridge.
Check out the Golden Gate Bridge at Battery East Vista
Battery East Vista offers the best unobstructed views of the Golden Gate Bridge. It is widely regarded as one of the top vista points for viewing the bridge.
Battery East Vista Overlook was built in 2015 and features a historic brick and earth battery built in the 1870s, protecting the bay when Presidio served as a post in the US Army.
Today, this beautiful site welcomes both pedestrians and bikers. Its main highlight is the square with amphitheater-style seating, allowing visitors to take stunning panoramic views of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Battery East Vista is located on Lincoln Boulevard in San Francisco, California, within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA).
There is a fee-paying parking, but be prepared to wait for the open spot. We visited around noon on a Saturday and had to wait for a long time, but the wait was absolutely worth it.
Once we found a parking lot, we only left for 30 minutes before heading to our final destination. Naturally, the first thing we did was to take lots of photos with the Golden Gate Bridge as the background.
3 Walking Options from Battery East Vista
After that we decided to go for a short walk. From Battery East Vista, there are three walking options.
1. A short and easy walk Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center.
2. California coastal trails It offers breathtaking views above the Presidio’s west coastline.
3. Bay Area Ridge Trail This leads to a top field.
We decided to take a quick walk along the Bay Area Ridge Trail towards Calcie Field. It was an incredible experience as I enjoyed the constant views of San Francisco’s iconic symbol, Golden Gate Bridge. We wish we had time to walk all the way to the evil field.
