After much negotiation, Keir Starmer and his family have decided to welcome a kitten to Downing Street instead of a German shepherd. The Starmers’ new addition is a Siberian, a breed known for its thick fur and resembling a small lion. The kitty will join Downing Street’s cat, Larry, and the Prime Minister’s other rescue cat, Jojo.

Starmer chooses Siberian kitten over German shepherd for Downing Street

The Starmer family welcomed an adorable new member to their household when they brought a kitten to Downing Street on September 2. BBCKeir Starmer has negotiated the purchase of a small kitten instead of a dog, after his children previously asked to welcome a German shepherd into their family when they moved into No. 10 Downing Street.

But the Siberian husky has to share the fame with Larry the cat, who is the Cabinet Office’s chief mouser. The Downing Street cat has already started to tease the newcomer, jokingly stating on Twitter that the pup will be his subordinate.

The infamous feline has over 903,000 followers on the social media platform and frequently comments on news and political issues. Larry the Cat made fun of his new friend’s cuteness, reposting his own photo and saying he was “way cuter.”

But Keir Starmer said there was one thing they were struggling with – fitting a cat door for their three rescued feline friends, including JoJo, was proving difficult. Number 10 only has one entrance and it’s a bomb-resistant door, so fitting a cat door is no easy task.

But his daughter made it clear that no matter how many cats a family has, the problem is the same, so they decided to give the Siberian kitten a forever home.
