I had a quiet therapy cat day at a hospital that was big for patients. My first visit was to the pediatric department, where all the patients were infants or isolated. So on the way back we stopped by the resident work room to see if anyone wanted to spend time with me. I found out that one of the residents had done so and she was very happy that I was there. Our residents work hard and I’m always happy to be able to brighten their day.
Then I went to the delivery room, but there were no patients there either, everyone was giving birth. So it was a tough morning for the nurses and staff. However, they were happy to meet me and spent some time taking pictures with me. I think they needed some stress relief.
I finally visited the cancer center and at first I thought there would be no one there either. There were three patients in the IV room, one was asleep and the second did not want pet therapy. However, as I was getting ready to leave, a third patient wanted to see me. I was petted in her lap while the nurse tended to the IV. She asked if she could kiss my human and I said “of course” so she kissed me on the head.
On the way back from the cancer center, a few of us stayed in the waiting room for a while, which was nice.
So, not much happened at my first therapy cat visit of the new year. But I think I’ve found exactly the people I need to spend time with.
