A Louisiana SPCA rescue dog is being hailed as a hero after donating blood to an anemic puppy.
The nonprofit Louisiana SPCA shared the story of the puppy and the hero dog on TikTok on Friday, June 28.
The couple said they found the flea-ridden puppy, which they named Dragonfruit, abandoned in the bushes outside their apartment building.
Not only was Dragon Fruit covered in fleas, he was also suffering from anemia, when Scout, a 2-year-old pit bull, came to his rescue.
“Meet our hero, Scout” The animal shelter captioned the video with a montage of Dragon Fruit drinking Scout’s blood and shelter staff hugging her because she’s been such a good girl.
“He donated several bags of blood and the puppy is now safely in foster care, resting until he’s ready for adoption.” Written by the Louisiana SPCA.
In a video shared on TikTok by the Louisiana SPCA, a sign can be seen on Scout’s kennel reading: “Super dog certified! Has donated blood!”
The story of Scout and dragon fruit has since gone viral, garnering nearly one million likes across social media platforms.
Now, Scout is looking for a hero to act like a hero and give him a forever home.
According to Scout’s adoption page, he “A heart full of love and a tail that never stops wagging”.
He has been described as the friendliest and most affectionate dog, and has the talent to make his owner feel like his best friend.
