The chaos began with a severe storm in Santa Ana that sparked fires that burned large swathes of Southern California. Baldwin, 26, found himself stuck in heavy traffic on Sunset Boulevard. The drive, which normally takes less than 30 minutes, turned into a grueling ordeal. With his GPS predicting a two-hour wait, Baldwin made the bold decision to abandon his car and sprint the remaining distance to his apartment.
Her father, Michael Baldwin, was simultaneously working to evacuate students from a nearby elementary school that was ultimately destroyed by fire. As the flames raged, Baldwin focused on saving his cat, Kitty. Despite the suffocating smoke and debris, Baldwin finally found the cat hidden inside the couch. She quickly packed Kitty into a carrier backpack, knowing that their journey was not over yet.
Once outside, Baldwin found himself in a scene from an action movie. Flames surrounded her and there was no clear path to safety. With roads closed and fire looming, Baldwin’s only option was to head to sea. “I had to jump in my car and dodge the flaming branches and palm fronds that were falling on the ground around me like a minefield,” Baldwin said. daily mail.
When Baldwin arrived at the beach, he was reunited with his father, who had also survived the ordeal. Baldwin, who is currently temporarily staying with a friend in North Hollywood, is grateful that she and Kitty survived. She reflects on the resilience she and Kitty have shown, particularly noting Kitty’s history of surviving natural disasters such as 2017’s Hurricane Maria. Despite her physical exhaustion and her throat being “almost scratchy” from the smoke, Baldwin is grateful to be alive with Kitty. Her father and cat are safe by her side.
