Safe for now, but no electricity

Summer reports on what's happening in her neighborhood during the wind and fires in Los Angeles on the night of January 7, 2025.

it is very It’s rare for me to not be able to write a proper blog post. The only other times this has happened is when my predecessor Sparkle died and once or twice when my human got really sick. This is a major weather event.

As many of you know, we live in the Los Angeles area and are currently experiencing a very dangerous storm with wind gusts potentially reaching 160 miles per hour. (It’s still not that high, but it got pretty intense at times.) As a result, the electricity went out and I don’t know if it will be restored tonight.

There are also some fires, but none are near us at the moment. My human has at least one friend in Pacific Palisades who had to evacuate with her elderly mother. Another fire is burning near us, but it’s still too far away for immediate concern.

The only power source here is a portable charger for the humans’ phones and iPads. It’s not strong enough to power my MacBook, which has most of my photo and video software installed. So while we will continue to stay in touch on social media, there is only so much you can do with your blog. There is no electricity, but the underfloor heating in the living room and office is not needed so it is still warm.

Even if it’s just a minor inconvenience that we have to deal with, we consider ourselves really, really lucky and our hearts go out to everyone who is less fortunate.
