Appeal for information after kitten tied in bag and dumped in trash

Zookeeper finds kitten tied up in a bag and dumped in a trash can

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) has launched an investigation and is appealing for information after two separate incidents in Camden Town where kittens were found tied in bags and left in bins.

RSPCA Investigators are appealing for information after tiny kittens were twice found tied up in plastic bags and placed in a bin outside a shared bin outside an apartment in Juniper Crescent, London.

The first kitten was found by keepers tied up in a Morrisons bag on May 13 and taken to Medivet Kentish Town for emergency treatment, while the second was found in the same circumstances on August 7.

Inspector Mike Beaman, from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA), who is investigating, said: “Thankfully both kittens survived their ordeal – something of a miracle. They could have both suffocated in the plastic bags, died of dehydration or starvation or been crushed by bin collectors.”

“The first kitten, named Binky by the vet who looked after her, is doing very well with her new owners. The second kitten, Socks, is currently being hand-fed by vet nurses and the vet centre is currently searching for a suitable foster home for her.”

“The vet reported the incident to the police and we at the RSPCA were contacted after the second kitten was found so we thought it was suspicious that they had been found in the same circumstances and the incidents may be linked so we began an investigation.”

Both kittens were dehydrated, covered in fleas and appeared to be around two weeks old.

The RSPCA is now appealing to local residents who have information about who dumped the kitten in the bin to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the RSPCA’s Inspector Appeals Line on 0300 123 8018, quoting reference number 1326918.

If you find a sick, injured, or abandoned small animal, take it to a local veterinarian or a nearby rescue organization for emergency assistance. The sooner help is given, the better.

If an animal has been abused or neglected, a vet or local agency (such as a rescue centre or dog warden) should contact the RSPCA, who will then send specialist staff to investigate. To report animal abuse or neglect to the RSPCA, visit: www.rspca.org.uk/reportcruelty.
