A North Carolina family was reunited with their cat, Blanco, eight days after Hurricane Helen caused severe flooding in the area. Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals – Angel (MSPCA-Angel) shared a story about this “resilient little cat.”
When the family reached land but were unable to save Blanco, they thought they had lost him forever. But something “incredibly unexpected” happened and the cat returned home after the hurricane passed. He then received immediate treatment at the organization’s mobile clinic.
North Carolina cat survives falling off power line during hurricane floods
Blanco, the North Carolina cat who miraculously survived Hurricane Helen, made headlines eight days later. MSPCA-Angell shared Blanco’s survival journey and heartwarming story on Facebook. The organization writes: post A “handsome cat” was separated from his family when Hurricane Helen hit his Yancey County home. The storm caused heavy flooding in the area, as well as in many other areas.
A family in North Carolina barely made it to land, but they were unable to save their cat from the hurricane. They watched in despair as Swing clung to power lines and tried to escape the raging floodwaters. However, he eventually fell into the water below and he was swept away. The cat’s family believed they had lost Blanco forever in the incident.
Amazingly, not only did this cat survive the severe flooding in North Carolina, but he was reunited with his family eight days after the hurricane. In his release, MSPCA Angel said he was happy that “Blanco found his way home” and that “his family was filled with a sense of relief” after his safe return. They then took him to the organization’s mobile clinic, and the team was “very grateful.” There, hurricane survivors were treated for ear infections and upper respiratory problems.
MSPCA Angels announced that Blanco, one of the many animals the organization helped during its time in North Carolina, is a cat who “embodies hope and perseverance.”
