A mountain lion attacked a chained pit bull named Gigi in the Los Angeles suburb of Sylmar, killing the dog instantly.
A Sylmar resident witnessed the incident and posted a description and photo of the mountain lion. Facebook Groups Sunday, August 11th.
He writes: “This mountain lion is at least 200 pounds and is still roaming the neighborhood. Please be vigilant and do not take your pets for walks.”
“Mountain lions are still untagged and roaming the prowl waiting for their next prey. Please be vigilant.” the resident wrote.
In another Facebook post, nonprofit owner and founder Mark Rulon said: Southern California Pit Bull Rescuerevealed: “We got a call from a woman in Sylmar, where Gigi lived, who said she saw a mountain lion attack Gigi and then carry him away.”
Rulon raised the dog, named Gigi, until he was officially adopted by his current family. “We recently rescued her from the Bakersfield Animal Shelter after she was found stray.” Rulon added.
Rulon also said the woman called him because the dog still had the identification tag he had put on it.
Rulon told the woman:The car honked its horn and tried to run over the mountain lion, causing it to drop Gigi’s body.”
They also said Gigi had no obvious signs of trauma and that the mountain lion likely snapped his neck, killing him instantly.
Rulon provided further details about the incident: “Apparently, the adopter’s father was walking Gigi when a mountain lion jumped on him. He kicked the lion, but it grabbed Gigi. He ran for help.”
But Rulon expressed disappointment with how her adoptive father handled the situation.
“We are deeply saddened by her father’s lack of compassion at the time of her death.” Rulon said. “After the mountain lion attacked her, he went home and had a beer. He wasn’t out looking for her.”
“I [it] It’s not convincing.” He further wrote: “The mobile home community where they live has a small park and it is believed Gigi was able to roam freely at the time of the attack. It is incomprehensible why she would be walking her pet so late at night.”
The way the situation was handled by Gigi’s family led many to question Rulon as to why their organization chose that family to be Gigi’s new (supposed) forever home.
but, Recent UpdatesRulon gave people the answers they were looking for.
He replied: “We are a family of four who recently lost a dog, the kids loved dogs.”
Rulon also spoke about Gigi’s death. “Delivers a very strong blow” Because she was never sick and was just an overall great dog.
“She was a really cute girl.” He said.
“Gigi was a dog that me and my family loved dearly. We are very saddened by his loss. People wonder why rescues stop.” Rulon wrote.
