The answer is no…Marley was not Endless Mount Labrador. However, many of you have heard us relate to the Endless Mount Labrador story. “Marley and Me”That’s true.
In this book, Marley and IJohn Grogan came to our website when researching the differences between English and American Labrador Retrievers – reputable breeders vs backyard breeders. Of course, this was after he had already owned Marley. He referenced my “About Us” page online at the time, which explained the differences in temperament between English and American Labrador Retrievers.
An actual rescue dog was used to play Marley in the film, which was perfect!
If you’ve read any of our sites already, you know that we breed dogs with temperaments that are the polar opposite of Marley! 😉
John Grogan bought a puppy from us a few years ago and he finally followed the advice he read in the book about us!!
Louis, 2020 –
“The Joyful Giant” by John Grogan
We buried our dog Woodson in August 2020 at the height of the coronavirus pandemic. Like all who welcome a dog into their lives and hearts, we grieved: quietly, secretly, in waves, moment by moment. Some days I’d call out, “I’m just going for a walk,” but my destination was a straight line, past the barn and under the big oak tree, to where the former child star lay beneath three feet of Pennsylvania dirt. Just standing there with him brought me peace.
But by fall of that year, we were itching to bring a puppy home, not just to fill a void in our lives, but also to fill a void in Wallace’s. After losing his lifelong companion, our aging Labrador had become lethargic, lazy, and, dare I say, depressed. He woke up every morning with a kind of stoic sadness that seemed to shatter our hearts like shattered porcelain. So in mid-November, we made the three-hour drive to Endless Mountain Labrador, a family-owned breeder in north-central Pennsylvania, and brought home the newest member of our canine clan, and certainly the most impressive, Louie. Louie quickly grew to 100 pounds, rippling muscles, and was so powerful that he accidentally sent Jenny and I to the emergency room with sprains and bruises. But even as a tiny puppy, he displayed the confidence of a large-dog leader. Fearless from the start, he soon convinced 10-year-old Wallace that there was a new sheriff in town, and that our Beta Senior Boy would quietly slip away and cede the feeding trough to the new interloper. We soon put an end to it, but the fate was sealed. Even when they became inseparable, there was a mutual agreement on the new pecking order. Louis, as they say, Many He’s also fun, goofy, a great companion and rarely takes his eyes off us. Welcome to the family, Louis.
