Loyal pet dog helps Texas police identify owner’s killer

And in another sign of their loyalty to us, our dogs helped solve the murder of their owner in 2023, helping police identify a woman’s killer.

The dog evaded capture and continued to remain in the area even after the body was removed.

The press release revealed that “A citizen found a dog sitting on the spot where the burned body had been the night before.”

A citizen later reported the dog to animal control, who determined that the dog, named Titan, had a microchip and belonged to Reynolds.

Thanks to Titan’s microchip information, Robinson police began to suspect that the burned body was Reynolds’.

Police later discovered that the victim lived in San Marcos, Texas. “San Marcos police were contacted and officers went to Ms. Reynolds’ residence to search for her.”

When police entered Reynolds’ apartment, they found it completely empty, with her belongings removed and her car, a black Honda Accord, missing.

Police then ran Reynolds’ car into a license plate reading database and discovered it was located somewhere in Wichita, Kansas.

On April 8, 2023, a Wichita Police Department officer spotted Reynolds’ vehicle and attempted to pull it over. A high-speed chase then began, which ultimately ended in a car crash.

The driver of the car attempted to flee the accident to a nearby grocery store. Fortunately, the police caught the driver, who turned out to be Derek Daigneault, Reynolds’ cousin and the murderer.

A .380 handgun was found inside Reynolds’ car, which matched a .380 shell casing found at the scene.

Additionally, Robinsons police determined that Reynolds’ body was burned in a large plastic storage container after he died from a gunshot wound to the head.

After a year of investigation, the case was finally closed on November 7, 2024, when Daigneault, 29, was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his cousin Mandy Rose Reynolds.

Assistant District Attorneys Ryan Calvert and Alyssa Killin said: “The key to this case was a heroic and loyal dog named Titan and the extraordinary cooperation between law enforcement agencies in multiple jurisdictions and states.”

“This combination brought justice to Mandy and safety from a violent and dangerous criminal.” The assistant district attorney continued.
