A cat was found alone on the street, and just 48 hours after being rescued, the shelter found it with a group of kittens.

A beautiful calico cat was wandering the streets alone, homeless, when a good Samaritan noticed her round belly and suspected she might be pregnant.
Upon approaching the cat, they noticed he was very friendly and in desperate need of a safe haven. “Thankfully, a kind-hearted stranger found him and brought him to one of our affiliated veterinarians,” Best Friends Fellines said.
How she ended up outside remains a mystery, but the adorable calico cat was happy to be found and grateful to be in a safe place.

With no microchip and no one to claim her, the cat named Shannon was placed in a foster home through Best Friends Felines. Shannon settled in quickly and immediately felt at home.

Shannon was incredibly affectionate with her owners, purring, snuggling and exuding confidence and grace.
Just 48 hours after arriving, they entered the room and were delighted by the amazing sight. Shannon had likely been searching for the perfect place to give birth. The moment she felt safe and cared for, she knew it was time to give birth.

Shannon went into labour and gave birth to five happy, lively babies who nursed with gusto and were desperate for more. “I gave birth to two tuxedo kittens, two tabby kittens and one gorgeous dark red and white kitten. They were all very healthy, weighing between 109-116g.”
It was clear from the start that the mother cat trusted her owner: when she gave birth to her first kitten, she decided to “run into the owner’s lap and give birth.”

After the third kitten was born, she returned to the birthing room and allowed the owners to help clean and warm the kittens, trusting that they would do the job carefully.
She seemed relieved to have someone there to support her as she gave birth to her last kitten.

The five kittens had a great start in life surrounded by cozy blankets, the unconditional love of their mother and the gentle hands of their caregivers. “Shannon is attentive and loving and never leaves their side.”

Just a few days after they were born, the five adorable kittens are getting stronger and more active by the day. Shannon keeps an eye on them even during breaks.
As soon as they crow, she rushes back to the nest and caters to their every whim.

It will be another week before their eyes begin to open. As the kittens discover there is a bigger world outside their nest, their curiosity drives them to get out of bed one after the other, ready for the many adventures that await them.
For now, mommy Shannon is surrounding them with love and cuddles while making sure their bellies are full and their fur is clean.

“Once I’ve completed my motherly duties in a few weeks, she will be ready to find her forever home.”
Thanks to a kind stranger, Shannon found the kittens a safe home in time, and they are now thriving, living lives filled with warmth, love and joy.
