We’ve talked many times about giving your dog a KONG® Dog Toy to distract him during stressful times (like fireworks!) and to prevent separation anxiety. These hollow toys are made to be filled with dog food and treats. Here’s a fun recipe for a mixture that makes the perfect “plug” for your Kong. It’s chopped dog liver.
Unlike traditional chopped liver, chopped liver for dogs does not contain onions (note: onions are toxic to dogs and should never be included in food or treats).
Use it as a “glue” for treats for stuffed animals like Kong, add it to vegetable mixes or your dog’s favorite crumbs, or layer the ingredients by placing chopped liver at the bottom of the toy and adding vegetables or fruit. You can. After eating the kibble, top the toy with some chopped liver so it doesn’t spill all over.
How to make KONG filler
Our chopped liver recipe for dogs is super easy to make and a hit with our dogs.
(If you don’t use Kongs, you can also offer spoonfuls as a treat or add spoonfuls on top of meals to encourage reluctant eaters.)
