When a kind person freed a cat from its crate, it was a moment that changed the kittens’ lives forever.

Early last month, a Good Samaritan found an abandoned wooden box outside and was stunned to find a cat and kittens inside, one of which was a pregnant woman. .
They rushed them to the vet before the storm hit. Tam, the pregnant cat, was friendly and loving despite everything she had endured. Volunteers from Best Friends Felines took them in and promised them a chance at a better life.
Tam quickly adapted to her foster home. After eating her fill of food, she lounged next to her human and took a nap.

She enjoyed a quality meal from a constantly refilled bowl, even if she was woken up by the sound of her caregiver tapping her foot at 3am to refill it.
“From certain angles, she looks elegant and sophisticated with her big, trusting eyes. But let her relax, and you’ll find her round baby belly. There. Looks like he’s hiding a basket of kittens,” the Best Friends feline shared.

Tam was “munching endless bowls and snoozing into ever more round shapes”, leaving her foster parents in suspense as to when the kittens would arrive.
A few days of nutritious food and rest worked wonders, leaving her coat soft and shiny.

Early Monday morning, Tam started having contractions. Despite having two cozy birthing suites available, she insisted on being close to her caregivers on the bed.
“A number of times she returned to her caregivers and refused to give birth elsewhere.”

After hours of no progress, it became clear that Tam’s intervention was needed as the kittens would not come out. She was rushed to the veterinarian, where a skilled team of three veterinarians and four veterinary nurses sprung into action.
Tam bravely underwent a C-section and five of the six kittens were born into the world.

The next two days were important for Tam and the kitten. Her foster family worked around the clock to make sure the kittens were eating well and the mother was healing properly.
“The little kittens were weighed every two hours, and those who weren’t gaining enough weight were given extra bottles.”

By the next day, they noticed that one of the kittens, Shortbread, had a slightly different taste and was difficult to feed. “His special differences will not affect him in the future. He just has his own way.”
Tam seemed to appreciate the support from humans and lovingly cared for her young children, embracing her role as a mother.

The kittens thrived on their mother’s milk and grew quickly. As they reached milestones, they became more active, eagerly exploring their surroundings and even climbing on top of their mother.
Tam is now fully healed and her vibrant and energetic personality shines through.
