Criminals seem to come in all shapes and sizes, but some of them have cute faces and wagging tails.
Despite his cute face and wagging tail, K9 Ice of the Wyandotte Police Department (WPD) in Michigan is one of the few police dogs who goes out of his way to commit crimes on the job.
“Theft is not only a crime, it is also morally wrong. In a job like police work, you have to take an oath before you start work. The police oath includes a promise to protect people’s property.” Wyandotte Police Department Facebook Post.
The Wyandotte Police Department explained that one of their officers, Officer Berwig, was eating lunch in the break room when he was called to assist someone in the Wyandotte Police Department Jail.
“He left his half-eaten lunch on the table and hurried off to work.” WPD tells the story.
“A short time later, Berwig and the other officer returned to the break room to see Officer Ice lazily leaving the room, licking his lips. Berwig’s entire lunch was gone…gone!”
WPD said K9 Ice exercised his Fifth Amendment right to remain silent but, frankly, is not cooperating with the police investigation.
Additionally, WPD revealed that K9 Ice isn’t a very good boy, especially when it comes to food. They wrote: “He has a history of rummaging through trash cans within reach and has been accused on multiple occasions of taking food directly from the hands of colleagues as they passed by.”
Although the incident happened in January 2023, it has become a hot topic again as online users feel that the perpetrator, K9 Ice, is too cute for his crimes and his mugshot. Is this a beauty privilege?
People rooted for K9 Ice and truly believed he was innocent. One user wrote: “No evidence! Last I heard, ‘flattery’ is not a crime!” Another user said: “I’m innocent! There were no officers’ names or badge numbers clearly marked on my lunch.”
Another user wrote “I’ll just say he’s guilty of stealing my heart. He’s a very manipulative person. Look at that face, he’ll never be convicted! You guys are nuts.”
In an update on the incident involving K9 Ice, WPD said Revealed that “Dozens of lawyers” They offered to defend police dogs against his crimes free of charge.
“They are threatening to spark large-scale protests if they proceed with investigations and prosecutions.” The police department wrote:
WPD also clarified that the public does not believe K9 Ice is guilty at all, and no video has been submitted of him stealing his coworkers’ food.
“That being said, Official Ice will not face any internal disciplinary action or criminal charges.” That’s the police department’s conclusion.
In addition to the charges being dropped, K9 also received a custom sandwich from one of his local supporters. “Because I felt like I wasn’t being given enough to eat.”
Even after the charges were dropped and the case closed, the public still demanded updates on the “innocent” police officers.
One user wrote: “I’m in favor of regular updates from Officer Ice! The public needs to know what shenanigans he has to deal with, including being falsely accused!”
