Looking for a super cute craft idea that would also make a fun little Halloween gift? Check out this homemade dog treat bag craft! The perfect place to store training treats on walks! It makes a unique gift for all dog lovers. I can’t wait to show you how easy it is to make!
If you don’t know yet, I have two adorable beagles who are still puppies. They are very energetic and love treats. It feels good to hold the fingertip, so I had to slowly train it to calm down when receiving a treat. We take our dogs everywhere and we love it when the places we visit are dog friendly. Not what I expected, but still great.
I’m always getting presents for my friends and family’s fur babies, so I quickly thought about how I could make Halloween special for the dogs I might meet. First of all, I don’t sew. You can, but I hate it and scoff at DIY posts that use it. Because no one has time for that. Well, many people do, but I don’t, so I prefer simpler options. Second, these small homemade dog treat bags are perfect for any holiday and can be customized for the season.
For example, if you are using it for Christmas, you can paint your dog’s name on the front in Christmas colors or use red twine. I originally came up with these for Halloween because there are a lot of dogs in my neighborhood. For those who bring their dogs trick-or-treating, we wanted something for their fur babies as well. This is the basic method!

Step 1. First, cut a piece of burlap in half about a foot and a half. I purchased 6 inch burlap rolls that are perfect for snack bags.
Step 2. Next, cut about 7 pieces of string about 8 inches long.
Step 3. If you fold the burlap in half and use the stencil option, place the stencil near the bottom of the center on one side of the burlap and lightly spray paint over the stencil.
Step 4: Let it dry for a few minutes before continuing.
Step 5: Start by tying the top of the bag using twine.
Step 6: Next, take the twine and thread it through the hole on the side, starting from one side of the bag, making sure it goes through both sides.
step 7: Double knot and repeat this two more times on the same side and three times on the other side until the sides of the bag are securely closed.
Step 8: Trim excess string from the knot.
that’s it! The final step is to simply open the top, fill it with treats, and retie.
