Step-by-step instructions: Patriotic frozen dog treat recipes
This recipe has fun star and cloud shapes Silicon molds by Emery Pets available on Amazon. Using this mold, we gave the snack something patriotic and playful and patriotic, but you can use any ice cube tray or mold you have.
Step 1: Prepare the layers
Red layer: Mix the strawberries until smooth.
Blue layer: Mix plain yogurt with a small amount of blue spirulina powder.
White layer: Use plain, unsweetened yogurt.
Step 2: Layer the ingredients
Spoon each color into one layer at a time, while freezing it to sharply separate the colors. Here’s how:
Start with either red or blue. You can alternate orders. for example:
Red → White → Blue
Or blue → white → red
After each layer, freeze for about 30-45 minutes until slightly stiffer before adding the next layer.
Step 3: Add a handle
After adding a white yogurt layer, insert the chopper cow lungs vertically into the center of each type. This acts as a once frozen handle.
Step 4: Freeze completely
Add the final layer and freeze the treatment for 2-3 hours or overnight until fully set.
Once you’ve frozen the solids, pop them out of the mold and serve them to your puppy for a patriotic and refreshing snack!
Can a dog eat beef lungs?
Yes, dogs can eat beef lungs. Not only is the lungs of beef safe, they are also very nutritious for dogs when fed moderately. In this recipe, I used Redbarn’s Choppers® –
– All-natural beef lungs
– I love crisp textured dogs
– Packed with meat flavor and protein
– Made in Redburn’s own manufacturing facility in Great Bend, Kansas
Better yet, these treats help support dental health by gently rubbing off the plaque and massaging the puppy as it chews. The perfect edible handle for these frozen treats!

I love making these using star and cloud molds, and the treats on the Chopper cow’s lungs were the perfect crunchy handle. Both KB and Kenzo couldn’t get enough of it. It’s a bit of an extra effort on the layer, but seeing the puppy’s tail swaying with excitement is totally worth it.
