There are so many beautiful parks, trails and gardens that we love to visit, one of our favorites is the dog-friendly Nigel Botanical Reserve.
Discover the Natural Beauty of Niguel Botanical Preserve in Laguna Niguel, California
Niguel Botanical Preserve is a hidden natural gem in Orange County.
Founded in 1981 as a community space for education and fun, this botanical reserve is now a bustling place with visitors enjoying its tranquil surroundings.
Nigel Botanical Sanctuary is a non-profit organization run by many amazing volunteers (we met some of them on our walk) and also receives funding from donations, members, sponsors and community support.
This stunning 18-acre public garden showcases plants from five Mediterranean climate regions of the world, including:
1) Countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea
2) California and parts of Baja California
3) Central Chile
4) Western Cape, South Africa
5) South and Southwest Australia
Plants from these areas are planted in the Niguel Botanical Reserve and serve as an inspiration to Californians. These plants can be grown in home and commercial gardens, demonstrating that it is possible to conserve water while still creating a beautiful garden.

Visit the dog-friendly Niguel Botanical Reserve
We love walking the well-maintained paths of Laguna Niguel Botanical Reserve, usually visiting on a weekend morning. The reserve’s thoughtful design and layout makes it a fun learning experience, complete with useful information about the plants. There are benches and shaded areas, and breathtaking views of the gardens and the city of Laguna Niguel. Plus, there are fun sculptures that are great for taking photos, and we especially love the butterflies.
It’s great that dogs are allowed at the Botanical Sanctuary, but it’s important that all dog owners follow two important rules: keep your dog on a lead at all times and clean up after your dog’s waste.
I love gardening and learning about plants so a walk through Niguel Botanical Reserve is a real pleasure, and being able to bring my dog makes it even more fun.
