An Arkansas couple is giving up their wedding funds and using their savings to save their Goldendoodle from a hit-and-run accident.
On November 2nd, Dylan McKay told how he and his fiancée Emily Roberts decided to rescue a Goldendoodle that had been left to die on the side of the road.

“She was hit by a car in a hit-and-run. It had been raining all day and she was wet. We gathered towels and blankets and rushed to the scene.” McKay wrote.
When McKay arrived at the scene, he found the puppy’s hind leg was bloody and appeared broken.
He and several kind strangers carried the dog to McKay’s car and rushed him to the hospital.
Mr McKay said Mr Acklin did not whine or growl despite his situation. Instead, she tried to crawl up to McKay and put her head in his lap.
When Mr. McKay arrived at the hospital, he discovered that Mr. Acklin did not have a microchip implanted, and all medical costs would be covered by Mr. McKay.
This was a huge decision considering the injuries the dog sustained in the accident. But McKay said: “At that moment, I decided to do whatever it took to help this puppy. She deserved a chance at life.”
McKay writes, “Her recovery will be long and difficult, but we are doing everything we can to help this beautiful girl.”
Then he reveals: “We used our wedding funds and lifetime savings to pay for these medical expenses.”
Hospital staff told McKay how bad Acklin’s condition was: he had a bruised lung, both hind legs were broken, both femurs were fractured, one with an open fracture, an infection and numerous injuries. He said he was infected with fleas.
“The next morning (November 1) I received a call from the doctor who told me that the leg that had an open fracture would have to be amputated and that a specialist would be needed to perform a very difficult operation on the other leg.” McKay reveals.
But that didn’t stop McKay and Roberts from helping Acklin recover.
The couple searched for surgeons in Conway, Little Rock and Memphis to perform the “very difficult surgery” before making the 10-hour round trip to Mississippi State University (MSU) in hopes of helping Acklin. .
Thankfully, the surgery at Mississippi State University was successful. In fact, the MSU team not only reconstructed Acklin’s leg, but they were also able to save his other leg without having to amputate it.
After the successful surgery, Akulin must undergo physical therapy and consistent treatment at home to avoid further complications.
Mr McKay reveals: “MSU surgeons and Greenbrier University doctors are concerned that she may have early onset arthritis. Additionally, MSU surgeons are concerned that she may be susceptible to early onset hip dysplasia. I felt that.
McKay said in a Nov. 8 update that the dog has started putting weight on its right hind leg and can now be walked by just one MSU employee instead of two.
“She will begin formal rehabilitation this Monday and we hope to take her home this weekend.” McKay reveals.
