You may have also caught the cottage cheese ice cream craze going viral on TikTok.
Unlike the human version, this dog version omits the chocolate (remember, it’s toxic to dogs!) and uses blackstrap molasses instead of honey, but you can also use honey if you prefer. You can also select But I love black molasses for its extra nutrients.
Did you know that one tablespoon of molasses contains the same amount of calcium as a glass of milk? Blackstrap molasses also contains potassium, magnesium, vitamin B6, selenium, manganese, iron, sulfur, and copper, making it ideal for sweetening snacks.
But all our dogs know is that they can make delicious ice cream.
I developed this recipe for new recipes dog ice cream coloring book (Also includes dog ice cream recipe).
You will need 1 cup of cottage cheese (it doesn’t matter whether the curds are small or large), 1 tablespoon of blackstrap molasses, and 1 tablespoon of peanut butter (creamy or crunchy).
When choosing peanut butter, make sure the peanut butter has the following characteristics: No xylitola sweetener that is highly toxic to dogs. Only a few manufacturers include this sweetener, but be sure to check the ingredient list to make sure you’re using plain peanut butter.
Place all ingredients in a blender or food processor and blend until creamy. You can feed this as a soft-serve ice cream, or you can freeze it to make a long-term snack like I did.
You can also use ice cube trays, but I prefer silicone molds because they make it easier to remove the frozen ice cream when it’s finished.
I also added little “handles” to half of the peanut butter and applesauce dog treats.
Our dog loved it!
