You may have been caught up in the cottage cheese ice cream craze that’s going viral on TikTok.
Unlike the human version, this dog version has no chocolate (remember, it’s toxic to dogs) and uses blackstrap molasses instead of honey, although you can use honey if you prefer – I love the nutritional value of blackstrap molasses.
Did you know that one tablespoon of molasses contains the same amount of calcium as a glass of milk? Blackstrap molasses also contains potassium, magnesium, vitamin B6, selenium, manganese, iron, sulfur and copper, making it an ideal sweetener for treats.
But all my dogs know is that it makes delicious ice cream.
This recipe is our new Dog ice cream coloring page (It even includes a recipe for dog ice cream).
You will need 1 cup of cottage cheese (either small or large curd is fine), 1 tablespoon of blackstrap molasses, and 1 tablespoon of peanut butter (creamy or crunchy).
When choosing peanut butter, No xylitola sweetener that is highly toxic to dogs. Only a few manufacturers include this sweetener, but always check the ingredients list to make sure you’re buying plain peanut butter.
Place all ingredients in a blender or food processor and blend until creamy. You can eat it as a soft serve ice cream or freeze it to make it last longer like I did.
You could use ice cube trays, but I like silicone molds because it’s easier to remove the frozen ice cream once it’s finished.
I also added small “handles” to the treats – half a peanut butter and applesauce dog treat.
My dogs were delighted!
