Actor Christopher Meloni is mourning the loss of Scotty, a precious dog who passed away at the age of 14. Known for his powerful role on screen, Meloni showed a deep personal side in a heartfelt Instagram post honoring the rescue puppy who has become a beloved member of his family.

“He started out as a rescue puppy from Kentucky,” Meloni wrote, recalling the day his wife, Doris Sherman Williams, and their two children, Sofia and Dante, brought Scotty to their home. “The kids named him Scotty. I wanted to name him Biscotty… the kids won.”

Scotty was more than just a pet. He was family. Over the years, Meloni shared that the Border Terrier had developed all his own personality and playedly pronounced “Ridder man-in-the-middle” that he had acquired a loving nickname like “Little Mr.” In Scotty’s final months, Meloni finds herself simply calling him a “puppy.” This is a nostalgic term full of hope and full of hope to hold on memories of love and joy a little longer.

The actor reveals that Scotty was diagnosed with cancer and only lived for a month, but in the true fighter way, Scotty gave them three. “He was the gift,” Meloni wrote. “14 years was a good run. In John Stewart’s words, “In the world of good boys, Scotty was the best.”

With the tribute, I was touching on photos of my family. Scotty is kicked out behind Sofia and Dante on a walk, sharing a selfie with Meloni, lying happily on the floor.

Law and Order with Longtime Friends: SVU Costar Mariska Hargitay said, “I love my friends.

In previous interviews, Meloni has openly spoken about how much Scotty means to him. In an interview with people in August, he explained how Scotty’s adoption changed his home. “You get interaction with another organism…and it touches this mind from another place,” he said.

Meloni jokes about Scotty’s unique look, teasing him by comparing it to “bassist in a hair metal band from the 70s,” saying, “I swear he’s wearing black eyeliner. I’ve never put on makeup on him, but when I sent him a photo, he’s wearing makeup.”

Despite the laughs, it was clear how deeply they were connected. Meloni describes Scotty as independent and affectionate in his own words, and appreciates even the simplest things like walking and eating. “That’s when you’re your best friend,” he said.

“It’s not easy… God Speedridder’s middleman,” Meloni concluded with his respect. For those who love and lose their pets, the words are true. Scotty may be gone, but he leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience and a quiet comfort that only a rescue dog can give.
