Hi, I’m Christopher. To find out more about me and my silly Russian Blue cat, Olga, please read my about me.
There are many times when I have to ignore my cats while I am working, talking on the phone, cooking dinner, etc. Usually, most cats do not like feeling ignored and do not hesitate to express their displeasure. A few years ago, my Siamese cat learned how to turn off my Xbox after a prolonged online session. The digital power button is too sensitive, so the cat simply touched the button with his nose, ending my fun and becoming the center of attention again.
Olga’s Patience
Patience is not Olga’s virtue, but she is unusually calm when I’m on the phone. She’ll sit close and watch if the conversation drags on, but she doesn’t jump on my lap or break the furniture. She looks annoyed when I hang up and then the phone comes back on, but she’s much calmer than when I’m working on my computer and ignoring her.
However, she is a bit tired of video calls and doesn’t think a human voice should come from a computer screen. If she’s sitting beside my chair when a video chat starts, she runs to the living room. I think the sound quality is fine, but the pitch and timbre bother Olga, and she has a similar reaction to YouTube videos. Of course, some online videos have terrible soundtracks, so it’s understandable that she would react to them.
Loud talker
She might get annoyed if she hears the muffled voice coming from my phone while she waits for the call to end because she won’t sit too close. Most of my friends and some of my relatives are loud talkers but I’m sure she is happy to keep her distance as she has good hearing.
I was surprised that she understood when I was talking to someone else, but like most healthy cats and dogs, she hears the other person and knows that I am giving them my attention. I don’t understand why she is so considerate and doesn’t interrupt when I am talking at length. When I am doing other things like reading or writing, her patience is at its limit.
Low decibel cry
My Siamese cat doesn’t really comply with my ignoring her and I ended up hanging up after enduring her whining. Olga would not be as intrusive as my Siamese cat, even if she cried the entire time I was on the phone. Olga doesn’t have a forceful cry and only cries when she is in her carrier.
As I’ve mentioned in other articles, I thought Olga couldn’t make noise when he was a kitten. Especially when I was in the kitchen preparing food, he would open his mouth and cry, but he couldn’t make a sound. Eventually, he started to make a few sounds, but they were more like “squeaks” than “meows.”
I thought she was a cross between a large rodent and a cat until I heard her scream for the first time. I’m glad she’s not a quiet cat and, although it’s not like her, she’s very polite on the phone.
