Cate Blanchett talks about what the cat in Alfonso Cuaron’s Apple TV+ series “Disclaimer” really means. Blanchett, who plays Katherine Ravenscroft in the thriller, debunked Cuaron’s intention to use cats to talk to audiences about “control.” She then spoke about human life, adding that even though it is “so out of control”, we still feel the need to hold on to our lives. But when humans keep pet animals, it only creates more confusion.
Cuaron’s thoughtful use of cats adds a layer of chaos to ‘Disclaimer’
Cate Blanchett and Alfonso Cuaron discussed the symbolic meaning of cats in “Disclaimer.” According to hollywood reporterBlanchett revealed that Cuaron added a layer of “organized chaos” to the thriller series by “introducing animals” to it. She claims that people think they “need to control everything in our lives, when in reality, we are so uncontrollable.” The actor believes that humans are already “out of control in the world” right now, but that they just add pets to these “really controlled environments” and that they are “constantly causing organized chaos.” It’s just that there is.
While filming the fish-bone removal scene in Disclaimer, Blanchett recalls asking herself, “Why is there a cat there?” But then I realized director Cuaron’s intentions behind introducing animals in that particular scene. Katherine Ravenscroft, played by Blanchett, tries to deal with a playful cat while deboning a fish. The scene becomes even more complicated with the addition of a cat who is determined to make Ravenscroft’s life more difficult.
Blanchett thinks that using cats in “Disclaimer” was “really interesting and a really subtle way of constantly looking at these people.” [in chaos]” Cuarón also watched her character continue cooking after trying to take the cat away, joking that “It was incredible to see Kate suffer.” He also accused Blanchett of destroying the cat, saying she “ended up doing whatever Kate wanted”.
In her “disclaimer,” Blanchett not only reveals the importance of cats, but also reveals that she is an avid animal lover. The 55-year-old also owns two cats, four dogs, and six chickens at home.
