A Carmichael, California, woman was arrested on Wednesday, October 16, after allegedly cutting her dog’s throat and throwing it in a trash can, but has since been released.
CBS News According to reports, the dog’s owner, identified as 41-year-old Daniel Daniel Killian, lives alone in an apartment complex on Manzanita Avenue in Carmichael with two dogs and a cat, and the animal was the sole provider of care.
in news release According to a statement from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, Killian told police, “I felt like my life would be easier if I had just one dog,” before slitting one of the dogs’ throats and throwing them in the trash. He has decided to do so.
Deputies responded to Killian’s apartment complex on the night of Oct. 16 after receiving a report of a dog found in a trash can with something tied around its neck.
Additionally, the caller stated that the dog had a wound to the throat area, but was still alive.
Killian was immediately detained at the apartment by animal control.They took the injured dog for treatment and rescued the other dog. ” This was announced by the Sheriff’s Office.
The injured dog was lucky to be still alive, but the sheriff’s office said Killian put the dog in a shopping bag. “I threw it in the trash.” on Oct. 15 at her apartment.
“Detectives then executed a search warrant at her apartment, which led to the discovery of a knife believed to have been used in this incident.” the sheriff’s office wrote.
“Killian was arrested and transported to the Sacramento County Main Jail. She was granted release on her own recognizance by the court and subsequently released from custody.”
Both of Killian’s dogs were unharmed, but the sheriff’s office said detectives were unable to find Killian’s cat.
They were also concerned that other animals she owned in the past had also been abused. “She told detectives that she moved around regularly, sometimes once a year.”
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information about the incident or Killian to contact them.
