Sherwood the dog made his 40th and final blood donation like a champ. And while that’s amazing enough, we should also mention that he slept through the entire thing.
The dog had his final blood donation at Northampton Vets4Pets on Saturday 13th July.
And on July 15th, Pet Blood Bank UK We’re celebrating Sherwood becoming the first dog in the UK to achieve 40 blood donations – a milestone for both Pet Blood Bank UK and the dog.

Sherwood is a Gordon Setter who has been faithfully donating blood since 2017, with the help and support of his owner Sue Mitchell.
his The last blood donationThe charity revealed that in total, Sherwood donated 22.5kg of blood, and his donations have helped save the lives of a total of 380 dogs.
One of the dogs Sherwood has helped rescue is Shizuru, a dachshund who has hemophilia.
Sizzle owner Emma Gray congratulated Sherwood and Mitchell on their achievement, saying: “I am so thrilled that owners and their amazing dogs give up their time to take part in our donation sessions – without Sherwood and his lovely owner Sue, our dog Sizzle would not be here today.“

Of course, Mitchell is also a proud dog owner, telling Pet Blood Bank UK: “As Sherwood’s owner, I am incredibly proud of him for achieving this incredible accomplishment. His first donation was in 2017 and since then he has made a successful donation every time he visits!”
Mr Mitchell revealed that Mr Sherwood’s son, Brynjal, who has already donated 12 units of blood, would carry on his legacy.
“Sherwood is my third dog that I donate to regularly to this fantastic charity and I am so proud of the lives they have saved.” added Mitchell.
In total, Mitchell’s dogs have donated more than 97 units of blood since the family’s first donor, Garner, joined the pack in 2015, according to Pet Blood Bank UK.
