There’s a reason why you call your dog your best friend. Their unwavering loyalty and protective nature often shine brightest in times of trouble. Recently, brave Labrador retrievers have shown how far these amazing animals go to keep their loved ones safe.

Last Tuesday, in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, a family home opened fire while they were away. There were pets inside the house. The cat and two dogs were trapped when the flames spread.

For 30 minutes before the firefighters arrived, the animals were stuck in the burning house. Something incredible happened during this terrifying time. Miller, a yellow lab from four years ago, found herself in the protection of a small dog, Amelia, in a corner. He used his body to protect her from fire.

“He may have never known exactly what he was doing other than being with his sisters in such a horrible time, but he somehow protected her.” Pet owner Chris Hintz told Krqe.

Miller suffered serious injuries, including a third burn and lung damage caused by smoke breathing. He is currently at a local veterinary hospital, with months of healing ahead of him. Despite his wounds, Miller’s actions kept Amelia safe from harm. Surprisingly, all three pets survived the ordeal. This is a great relief for Hintz and his family, despite their home being severely damaged.

“Thanks is probably an understatement of how lucky we are to still have them. We can replace things and rebuild our home.” Hintz told Krqe. “Material items are interchangeable. Animals aren’t.”

The doctor left the dog in the storage box

The doctor left the dog in the storage box

The child doctor had left and left the items behind when she left. There was something surprising in it. A plastic storage box where the dog was trapped inside. If someone is cruel to a small, defenseless dog, how can they continue to treat their children as doctors?

Since the fire, the family has received more than $10,000 in donations to help Miller pay for medical expenses.

Miller’s heroic acts show how loyal and selfless there are dogs that instinctively intervene to protect those they love. Please share this uplifting story ❤️
