The kitten was hiding from everyone and living with other cats. Then one day, everything changed when I was stroked for the first time.

The towing company contacted the Alley Cat Project, a volunteer-run rescue group, regarding the safety of the cats living on boats on the property.
“It’s a busy place with lots of sharp objects and cars moving around at any time, so we needed help moving them safely,” one of the rescue volunteers told Love Meow.
Rescuers set a humane trap with a camera and waited for the cat to come out. On the screen, a small calico cat emerged from its hiding place, attracted by the smell of food.

After much patience, they secured a calico cat and two orange tabbies. Josh Norem, a kind-hearted foster volunteer, thought they might be related, so he took them home to socialize.
It soon became clear that the calico wanted nothing to do with the tabby. Terrified, she hissed and stroked the person approaching.

After spending some time alone with Josh, his fearful reaction to touch subsided, replaced by a gentle purr. She slowly approached Josh.
She went from hissing and cowering in a corner to purring and standing up straight. Her eyes softened and she began to trust.

“It took a few days for her to come out of her shell and start trusting me, but when she did, the most amazing thing happened,” Josh said. “At one point she reached for my hand, lifted it to her face and gave it a few gentle licks.”
With newfound courage, the calico cat named Katie Purley explored her space for the first time, filling the room with her purrs.

She began to accept pets and attention, blinking slowly every time a human gently petted her. It turns out that Josh wanted to eat alone and left the room to feel safe, but he didn’t touch the food until Katie returned.
When she felt her belly being rubbed, she turned over and stretched out her legs as if to reach for more.

Eventually, Katie climbed onto Josh’s lap and continued to purr while being held comfortably. She transformed into a snuggle bug and a “biscuit” maker.
The calico cat was petted and loved on my lap and was much calmer. Her rumbling motor never seemed to stop spinning.

As Josh examines her more closely, he notices a wound on her abdomen.
Estimated to be 8 months old, Katie was very small for her age, likely due to malnutrition. Her wounds were treated and she was transferred to another nursing home with Patty so she could have a full-time caregiver to herself.

“She’s shy at first, but she quickly purrs loudly. She wants a pet and seems to especially love scratching her chin,” Patty shared with Love Meow.
Katie’s eyes lit up when she noticed her new toy, and her playful side quickly showed. “She loves to go through fairly short cat tunnels and has attacked chirping bird toys. She has a lively side that has yet to be revealed.”

Most of all, Katie enjoys spending time with her adoptive mother and has mastered the art of cozying up on her lap.
“She loves the chance to snuggle with our adult cats, who are often adopted out. She is a charming little girl who loves her new life, including food, warmth, toys, and love. is.”

Gaining a second chance, Katie has learned to trust and is now living the good life with her sights set on a future filled with endless lap time.
