The Ibizan Hound is an extraordinary and ancient breed of dog that has captivated people all over the world with its unique history and amazing appearance. Known for its smooth, agile body and long, narrow muzzle, this breed can be traced back to 3400 B.C., where it is depicted resembling the Ibizan hound found in Egyptian tombs. The breed’s journey to Spain’s Balearic Islands, particularly Ibiza, between 700 and 900 BC reinforced its role as a skilled hunter of small game. This elegant and noble breed continues to be admired for its rich heritage and unique characteristics.

Historians believe that Phoenician traders brought these majestic dogs to the Balearic Islands, including Ibiza, between 700 and 900 BC. It was on these Spanish islands that the breed became known as the Ibizan Hound, where it was used to hunt small prey such as rabbits, rodents, and cats. The breed’s speed, agility, and keen senses make them exceptional hunters, and their legacy as skilled working dogs continues to this day.

Often affectionately referred to as “beazers,” these dogs are notable not only for their hunting ability, but also for their temperament. According to Dogbreedinfo.com, Ibizan Hounds are known for their gentle, playful, and quiet nature. They have a polite and intelligent personality, and they also have a unique characteristic: when excited, their ears and nose turn pink and they blush. Their eagerness to please and keen learning ability make them extremely trainable and beloved by those who appreciate their royal history and companionship.

However, despite its amazing qualities and ancient pedigree, some people tragically do not understand the true value of this wonderful dog. The Ibizan Hound Queen was a heartbreaking example of this when she was abandoned, abused, and left to suffer alone.

In 2013, the Queen’s story unfolded in a way that shocked and saddened animal lovers around the world. Queen was owned by a hunter who had long depended on her for hunting. As a loyal and obedient companion, the Queen did everything that was asked of her. She worked hard day in and day out for her owner and did her best. However, when she became ill, too ill to continue hunting, they decided she was of no use anymore. Rather than take care of her or seek help as her health deteriorated, they cruelly abandoned her and left her to die in a secluded field.

When Queen was finally discovered, she was in a desperate condition. She was weakened by neglect and illness and was no longer able to support herself. It was obvious that she had been suffering for a long time. She was rushed to a veterinary clinic, where veterinarians immediately began treatment. The extent of her condition soon became apparent and it did not take long for the Queen to realize that she had been abused to the point of near death by those she trusted.

Queen was diagnosed with a terminal case of severe neurological disorder. The disorder, which caused her extreme weakness and pain, is often caused by nutritional deficiencies and other underlying health issues, and is exacerbated by poor care and neglect. It was clear that the Queen was being denied the basic necessities that a living creature is entitled to, and that her condition would deteriorate over time.

Despite the gravity of the situation, the Queen’s spirit remained strong. She was alert, showed signs of hope in her eyes, and was extremely hungry due to lack of proper nutrition. Her will to live was evident and it touched the hearts of those who cared for her. That’s when animal rescue group Let’s Adopt stepped in to take over her care, determined to do everything in its power to give the queen a fighting chance at recovery.

Prior to this, two different veterinary clinics evaluated Queen and both came to the same conclusion. This meant that euthanasia was the most humane option. They believed her condition had deteriorated so much that there was little hope of recovery. But the Let’s Adopt team wasn’t ready to give up. They saw in the queen a dog who had not yet given up the fight, who still had life left in her. They believed she deserved a chance and refused to take the easy route.

Let’s Adopt provided the care and attention the Queen had been deprived of for so long. They worked day and night to relieve her suffering and restore her strength. For a while, it seemed like Queen had a chance. She was surrounded by people who loved her and wanted her to survive, and she was receiving the best care possible.

However, despite their tireless efforts and the Queen’s own will to live, her body had been too severely damaged by the neglect she endured. The neurological damage was devastating and months of abuse had caused irreparable damage. In the end, the Queen’s brave fight came to a tragic end. On February 10, 2013, Queen passed away.

Her death left rescue workers heartbroken as they learned how close she had come to a chance at a better life. But Queen’s story didn’t end with her death. It became a symbol of the cruelty that too many animals endure at the hands of the people who are supposed to care for them. Her story also serves as a reminder of the resilience of dogs like Queen and the need to raise awareness about animal abuse, neglect, and proper care.

Queen’s story is tragic, but it also highlights the incredible compassion and dedication of those fighting for animal rights, like the rescue workers at Let’s Adopt. Even though others gave and gave her a chance to know kindness and love in her last days, they did not give up on her.

Rescuers swooped in, but by the time they got the puppy, he had lost the use of his back legs, was having trouble breathing, and weighed only about 20 pounds.

With a rich history and a commanding presence, the Ibizan Hound deserves the utmost respect and consideration. The Queen’s story is a solemn reminder that all animals, whether useful to humans or not, are entitled to compassion, dignity, and protection from harm. Let her story be a call to action for greater responsibility and kindness towards all animals.

Although Queen has passed away, her spirit lives on through the efforts of animal advocates and the memory of the love and care she received in her final days. Her legacy is a reminder that every life matters and that no dog, especially one as special as the Queen, should ever be abandoned or forgotten.
