Solvang, California is about a 45-minute drive from Santa Barbara, California. Head north on US-101. If you prefer a more scenic drive, take State Route 246, which runs from Lompoc to Solvang and Santa Ynez.

1. Wander around Danish towns
One of the most enjoyable ways to experience Solvang Village is on a walk, and your dog will love walking with you while taking in the sights and scents of this quaint Danish village in California.
Two fun streets to explore in Solvang Village
a) The best street to experience Danish culture and atmosphere is Copenhagen DriveThis is the town’s main street.
b) One block south of Copenhagen Drive Mission Drivealso known as Highway 246. As you stroll, you’ll pass charming shops (most of which are dog-friendly), cafes, and bakeries.
2. Take photos of iconic spots
a) Solvang Windmill
Solvang Village has four windmills, the most famous among tourists and photographers is the one on Alisal Road, and there is also one at the Solvang Brewing Company on Mission Drive.
b) Solvang Founder
Danish educators JM Greggelen, Rev. Benedikt Nordentoft, and Professor PP Hornschild founded Solvang in 1911. Their statues can be found at 1660 Copenhagen Drive.
c) Giant wooden Dutch clogs
This giant wooden Dutch clog is owned and placed outside the Solvang Shoe Store at 1663 Copenhagen Drive.
3. Visit Solvang Park
Solvang Park is located at the corner of Mission Drive and First Street. It is a beautiful park with grassy areas, a gazebo, and a statue of Danish author Hans Christian Andersen.

Solvang is home to a number of fantastic Danish bakeries, and although dogs aren’t allowed inside, many offer patio seating so your pooch can soak up the delicious aromas while you enjoy your Danish treats.

Be sure to stop by Hund N Kat, a charming pet boutique located just around the corner from the Windmill at 446 Alisal St. This lovely store is a must-visit for any pet lover.
We attended dog-friendly wine tastings at Jalopy (1659 Copenhagen Drive) and Toccata (1650 Copenhagen Drive).
6. Two Fun Ways to Explore Solvang Village
a) Solvang Trolley
One way to learn more about and explore Solvang is to take a ride on the Solvang Trolley, a 25-minute tour of historic downtown Solvang aboard a large motorized trolley. b) Solvang Moke Experience
Another fun and eco-friendly way to explore Solvang, California is to ride the electric Moke vehicle located at 1604 Copenhagen Drive.
7. Enjoy meals at dog-friendly restaurants and cafes
Solvang offers a wide variety of culinary experiences and is dog-friendly, with many of the town’s restaurants and cafes offering dog-friendly outdoor patios.
To our surprise, we found the Michelin-starred restaurant First and Oak, located at 409 1st St. in Solvang, California. The food was tastefully presented and delicious, and the cozy patio provided a comfortable spot for our dog while we dined.
