Why do dogs stretch when they say hello?
If your dog greets you by raising his butt in the air and extending his paws in front of him, there are actually several things that can cause this behavior.

If you were lying down before you walked through the door, some dogs may straighten up to greet you.

If your dog approaches you, you may need to stretch to loosen tight muscles.

Dogs usually stretch when they are relaxed.

Your dog may be expecting you to be more active once you get home.
Some dogs may learn to display this stretching behavior for their owners if this behavior is reinforced. Therefore, if you think this behavior is cute and praise your pup every time he performs the stretching behavior, he will be more likely to stretch for you again.
Some pet parents inadvertently teach words and words to their dogs. Use a hand signal to signal them to stretch without you even realizing it.
For example, part of your dog’s routine might be to put your hand on his lap, lean over, and talk to him while he stands up and stretches. Over time, certain behaviors such as leaning forward and placing your hands on your lap can trigger your dog to stretch.
Other reasons why dogs stretch
Stretching is generally not perceived as a dangerous activity. Dogs may stretch for other reasons as well, depending on their mood or the situation they’re in.

A variation of the stretch is the play bow, where a dog signals to another dog or human to start playing. Your dog may not lower his head as much as usual when stretching out if that’s what he wants.
Dogs stretch for a variety of reasons, so don’t be hurt if your dog doesn’t stretch and say “I love you” when you get home. Their way of showing love may be by licking your hand or face, saying “I love you”, leaning in while petting you, or pouncing on you.
