Ingredients for these homemade dog treats:
- 1/2C canned pumpkin puree (Not pumpkin pie filling)
- 4 TBSP Black Strap Molasses
- 4 tablespoons water
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2C whole wheat flour*
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
Blackstrap molasses is the best variety for dogs because it has the lowest sugar content. But if you can’t find it, you can use regular black molasses. It is safe in moderate amounts.
You can also use real maple syrup in place of molasses if you prefer. But it has to be authentic, not the cheap “maple flavored” stuff that costs $2. It’s basically just corn syrup and fake flavors.
As for vegetable oil, you can replace it with coconut oil according to your preference.
Finally, if your dog is allergic to whole wheat flour, you can use almond flour. A great alternative to dog-friendly flour.
Icing material:
- 1 1/2 teaspoons meringue powder

Don’t want to use sugary icing? Try peanut butter instead! Mix it with a little cinnamon or other spices and spread it like icing.

The original version is no longer available, but this turkey-shaped version is available at: Amazon. It works the same, I promise.
