Big Cat Sanctuary, whose corporation includes the presenter of CBBC’s hit wildlife TV show One Zoo Three, has confirmed its participation in The Cat Show Live, the UK’s first non-competitive feline event.
The UK-based charity works to protect and conserve wild cats, including jaguars, leopards, lions and tigers. The sanctuary, set on 32 acres of grassland in Kent, is home to 11 of the 40 wild cat species, many of which would be at risk of extinction without this support.
Rescue mission – saving five lions traumatized by war
In its ongoing “Cats in Danger” campaign, the charity plans to evacuate five African lions from war-torn Ukraine.
The effects of war have been devastating, leaving Armarni, Lila, Vanda, Lori and Luna extremely traumatised. £150,000 has been raised so far and, at the time of writing, they have temporarily travelled to Belgium where they will remain until they can be moved to their newly built homes at Big Cat Sanctuary.
Luna will be the first to arrive in the UK as she suffers from severe shell shock and is in most urgent need of rehabilitation and care. The charity is struggling with complex paperwork and hopes that all issues will be resolved and the cats can begin their journey by the end of August.
Chance to meet and support a big cat sanctuary
Big Cat Sanctuary will be taking part in the launch of a new cat event, Cat Show Live, at Birmingham’s NEC on 14th September, which will bring together over 200 cats from over 50 breeds to meet and greet audiences rather than compete – a revolutionary concept for UK audiences.
Powered by Antinor
This charity event and show were made possible through the introduction of Antinor, the show’s main sponsor.
The company has also partnered with Big Cat Sanctuary since June 2023 to supply joint support supplements to elderly wild cats, raising vital funds through sales of the product.
Introductions were made and the three companies came together at the recent Big Cat Sanctuary open day.
What unites The Big Cat Sanctuary, The Cat Show Live and Antinol?
A love for cats of all sizes and a closely shared set of values are the foundation of each of these organizations.
- Big Cat Sanctuary – As well as campaigns, Big Cat Sanctuary and its sister venue, Hertfordshire Zoo, promote animal welfare and conservation through a variety of channels and avenues, including tours, experiences, workshops, school and community outreach and the popular CBBC series One Zoo Three. They are committed to providing their captive cats with a mentally and physically fulfilling life, living in a peaceful environment and fed a varied diet.
- Live Cat Show – Cat welfare and owner education are at the heart of the show. The 250-seat theatre will feature educational talks from experienced experts, including a talk on dental health from Victor Carpio, owner of Dental Wand, featured on Dragon’s Den. The show will also bring together several charities, rescue groups and cat clubs in a section dedicated to charities: Hope Alley. Here, AV screens will be used to facilitate the rehoming of rescued cats, with photos and QR codes that guests can scan. This will connect guests and rescue groups to discuss adoption.
- Antinol – At the heart of everything we do, Antinol believes that every cat (big or small) deserves to have the best day ever. As well as providing joint support for senior cats, we also play a major role in raising funds for shelters.
Together, the charity, the show and Antinol have a mission to promote cat welfare and provide educational opportunities on all things cat-related, big and small.
One, Two, Three – a hit CBBC TV series
Hertfordshire Zoo is a sister facility to the Big Cat Sanctuary, and One Zoo Three takes visitors behind the scenes of the zoo with brothers Aaron, Tyler and Cam, who grew up here playing hide-and-seek and just “hanging out” with the animals after closing time.
It’s no wonder they grew into passionate animal lovers.
The television series will educate viewers about the more than 800 rare and unusual animals in Big Cat Sanctuary’s care, while raising awareness about what we need to do to protect endangered species.
It is believed that one, if not all, of the siblings will be in attendance at the show.
