From helping search for an elderly dementia patient to finding a 7-year-old kidnapped at knifepoint, K9 Bo proved he was worthy of the title of this year’s “American Hero Dog.”
On November 8, the American Humane newspaper announced Police dog Bo has won the 14th American Humane Hero Dog Award.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with American Humane to support our patients,” said Dr. Robin Ganzert, president and CEO of American Humane. “We are thrilled to name Beau as American Humane’s newest hero dog. This is a well-deserved honor for him and his handler, David.”
“In a short period of time, Beau and David have done an extraordinary job. As members of the Gastonia Police Department, they have worked tirelessly, and thanks to Beau’s courage and top-notch scent-tracking skills, they have done an extraordinary job. It is these incredible stories of perseverance and dedication that this award seeks to highlight.
According to American Humane Hero Dog Awards websiteK9 Bo is a 17-month-old bloodhound assigned to the Gastonia Police Department.
He began his amazing journey at the police station in April 2023. He then underwent rigorous training before starting work as a police dog in October 2023.
After starting his career, K9 Bo quickly proved his skills were invaluable, discovering an elderly dementia patient and a missing 11-year-old autistic child.
“On a particularly cold January night in 2024, Beau displayed an uncanny ability to track a missing elderly patient over several miles in harsh conditions, ultimately finding him safe.” This was revealed by American Humanitarian Magazine.
Beau proves time and time again that he has extraordinary skills, and despite severe odor contamination, is still able to track down the robbery suspects.
Although these were remarkable accomplishments, they were not Bo’s most notable examples. American Humanitarian Shares Bo “The most touching moment” In May, police tracked down and found a 7-year-old child who had been taken away at knifepoint.
The American Humane Hero Dog Awards website states: “Beau’s incredible work continues to bring joy and hope, making him a true hero and inspiration to the Gastonia Police Department.”
