I love seeing therapy cats at large hospitals. The security guard at the front desk knows my name. I started working from the moment I arrived. Several visitors were watching me while my human was signing in. So she made me sit at the counter in front of them. They were overjoyed!
After a quick stop at the cancer center (the patients were sleeping, I visited with a nurse), I went to the pediatrics department. I ended up meeting three different girls.
My first child was in bed, unconscious, but she wanted to see me. When my human put me to bed, she petted me a little while her mother walked around and petted me. She admitted that she probably enjoyed the visit more than her daughter. But it’s okay, I’m also there for my parents. They really need stress relief.
The second girl was a teenager and alone. I sat down on the bed with her and relaxed. The girl was watching a movie on TV that included a scene in which soldiers and brutal murderers chase several women through a hellish cityscape. My human couldn’t stop seeing it and I think it made her a little anxious. (She doesn’t like that type of movie.) Meanwhile, I almost dozed off, resting my chin on the girl’s arm and pleasuring her. Glad one of us was working!
I only saw the third girl for a second. She was such a cute little girl and was a little scared of me, but she still petted me. Her mom was there too and she really enjoyed my visit too.
By then, it was time to turn to behavioral medicine. They had two women and one man visiting with me. I had so much fun hanging out with them and taking photos. My human chatted with them and showed them a video of me in a teddy bear costume and one with a peach kitten. When one of the nurses heard about my Candy Striper bow tie, she said she was a Candy Striper! It was so much fun that we ended up playing overtime. I mean, it was a particularly great visit and one of my best visits.
Can you believe that I have been doing home-visit treatment at this hospital since 2016? It may be big, but now it feels like a second home.
