Located in the heart of Shrewsbury, shropshire cat rescue We provide a lifeline to homeless, stray, abandoned and unwanted cats and kittens across Shropshire. The charity provides shelter, food and veterinary care with a mission to rehome as many cats as possible. In addition, they extend their care to feral cats, providing necessary veterinary services such as neutering and neutering, and educating the public about all aspects of cat health and welfare.
In 2009, staff were tired of seeing older cats spending their days in tiny cages and established Cat Retirement Village to help them age in style. Today, the retirement village is thriving, and so are its senior kitties.
Retirement village for senior cats
While kittens are often the focus of adoptions, older cats are often ignored. Despite their health, many older cats are at risk of euthanasia due to overcrowded shelters. Shropshire Cat Rescue recognized this heartbreaking trend and was inspired to open Retirement Village, an innovative sanctuary that provides a dignified and comfortable home for older cats.
Funded through donations and sponsorships, this retirement village features six luxury chalets and the aptly named ‘Moggy Mansion’, a shared space where cats can socialize freely . Each chalet comfortably accommodates up to 4 cats and provides plenty of space for rest and relaxation.
This village is more than just a retirement home. A community where senior cats can enjoy their later years surrounded by love and care. They roam freely during the day, receive lots of love from staff and visitors, and can even curl up in a welcoming lap.
Health monitoring is a top priority at the village, with cats being weighed weekly and the shelter’s veterinarians immediately addressing any concerns during routine checkups. This proactive care makes the Village a reliable choice for owners who can no longer care for their elderly cats but still want to live out their days in comfort.

Shropshire Cat Rescue is about more than just its current success. In addition to caring for elderly residents, they also operate a kitten nursery and maintain a robust adoption program for cats of all ages. However, the demand for their services continues to grow.
Their future vision includes relocating to a larger 10-acre site to expand their facilities, particularly their retirement village. This move will allow us to help even more cats in need by providing a safe and nurturing environment for cats at every stage of their lives.
