Solvang, California is a hidden gem in the Santa Ynez Valley where you can experience a slice of Danish culture. Solvang is known as the “Danish Capital of the USA.” In a previous post, I shared 8 dog-friendly activities in Solvang, California and shared my weekend stay at Wine Valley Inn & Cottages.

Traveling with large dogs can make finding accommodation a challenge as many hotels have weight restrictions, so it is always important to find a pet-friendly hotel that will accommodate larger dogs such as golden retrievers.
We frequent Solvang, California every time we go to Santa Barbara, and this was our first time staying there for a weekend, but we had a memorable stay at the Wine Valley Inn.
Wine Valley Inn & Cottages
Built in the early 1980s, Wine Valley Inn & Cottages is a boutique hotel designed in traditional old-world Danish style, but has undergone several renovations, particularly in the interiors of the guest rooms.
Located just off the main tourist strip but within walking distance of the main attractions, the hotel features a distinctive clock tower in the main building and attractive gardens, koi pond and cosy cottages at the rear of the building.
Where is Wine Valley Inn & Cottages located?
Wine Valley Inn & Cottages is located at 1564 Copenhagen Dr, in the heart of downtown Solvang, California.
Pet Policy – Wine Valley Inn & Cottages
Wine Valley Inn & Cottages has a pet-friendly policy (from their website): “Up to two pets are allowed for a fee of $25 (plus tax) per pet per night. Pets must not be left unattended in the rooms.”
When booking, I called Wine Valley Inn directly to find out about pet fees and whether they accept larger dogs such as golden retrievers. Dogs of all sizes are welcome and I met plenty of other dog owners during my stay.
Stay at the dog-friendly Wine Valley Inn
We arrived before the 4pm check in time so we relaxed in the lobby and got some work done in one of the working areas.
We stayed in room 104, which is on the side near the back lobby door and front courtyard – a king size room with a large gated patio.
Upon entering the room, it was spotlessly clean and had a welcome package ready for our dog (dog bowl, water bottle, bag of treats).
The rooms are spacious, decorated in a minimalist style with necessary furniture and most importantly, no carpeting.
The best part of the room was the patio, especially for our dog Kenzo, who loved it when he walked by the sidewalk and said hello to everyone who passed by.
The room is right next to Lost Chord Guitars, a music venue where artists perform. We went there one evening and were able to bring our dog. Surprisingly, despite the venue being next door, we were not bothered by music noise during our weekend stay, especially Kenzo.
All in all it was a pleasant 2 night stay and although we had a good time at Kenzo the ambience of the room contributed greatly to this.
